Timberman Race Report - Henry Sacco
I signed up for Timberman early in the year as a "C" race to do with my local Tri Club. I planned on really focusing on enjoying myself rather than taking this one too seriously. Coming out of IMLP and with IMAZ on the horizon, I wasnt expecting much. Surprisingly, I think i had the best HIM ever as far as execution! I PR'd the course by about 30 minutes.
Family reunion down the street in New Durham the night before. Watched what i ate, but did indulge a bit on the desert plates.
Morning, woke at 3:30 to get to Ellacoya to get a parking spot. Had a whole bagel, yogurt, coffee and Gatorade as i waited in the car. Felt pretty good.
I was in wave 7 so i waited until 7:30. Loosened up a bit in the water and chatted up a few folks until the gun went off. Nothing too eventful on the swim as again, I didnt plan on trying to break any records. Water was calm and smaller waves made for open swimming. Got out of the water feeling great.
Swim: 42:38
T1: 2:46 (Stopped to pee)
Used the disc and 808 on this race so i didnt have power. Used HR and tried to stay in low Z3 most of the bike. Took it very easy on ALL the hills and kept HR as low as i could. Gave it a little more during last 45 minutes, but still not moving out of zone 3. Drank 24oz Gatorade and one gel every hour for approximately 250 calories. (maybe a little much for a half, but i felt great) Also had 1 saltstick every 30 minutes.
Bike: 2:52
T2: 1:44
Got off the bike feeling really good. I knew i had plenty left. I kept saying to myself "dont screw this up". Just have fun. Started out plus :30 for 3 miles and got my legs under me. Started to pick it up after the first turn around at mile 3. Drank water at every stop, but held off on eating anything until mile 6 when i had my first gel with caffeine. Picked up pace just a bit more and held that until mile 11 when i had one more. (love the caffeine) Started to pass many walkers at mile 9-10, but kept going strong to the finish and got my medal from Chrissie.
Run: 2:03
Total Time: 5:43:11
Very happy with what i've learned from EN!

Nicely done Henry. If I'm correct, you passed me on the bike early on. I thought there were an awful lot of walkers for a HIM.
Glad you had a good race!
