First Ever EN Race Rehearsal (Rev 3 S.Carolina)

RR #1, and first time I've had any guidance on this kind of thing.  What a learning experience.  Really shows how ez it is to booger the run on race day if you just show up thinking you know how its gonna feel.  At least, that's been my experience thru 2 fulls and several half's.

didn't do the 2 am feeding, did eat before 5 and ready to ride at 6.  5 hrs sleep, lots of ballgames the day/night before.  Broke the ride up into 30' segs on the Joule.  Hilly route.  First 3 intervals had pretty good control at .78-.82 IF.  Then lost some focus and discipline on the next 2 intervals and IF jumped up to .87 and .88.  Crap.  Hills and buddies.  Crap.  Last interval was back around .8.

2 bottles of Cytomax, 3 gels, 1 bottle H2O/nuun.  Avg of 200 cal/hr.  Felt a little hungy when I hit the run.

Run was a steady z2 out, felt fine, didn't take any fluids with.  and some z3 back but felt really tired, knowing I couldn't hold this for 7 more miles.

Bottom line, there IS a difference between riding at .8 and .87-.88. and that difference hits hard on the run for average dudes like me.

Looking forward to my second ever EN RR so that I can control better and see if the run feels better.

  • Went to the Fatigue Loading Scores grid to see how far off I was with the TSS of 211. Hello Red Block. Red is bad. This is such leap of faith to back off this much. You vets have some results under your belt. You've seen it work. The more I try to back off on the bike, the more worried I get that 'bike time lost' will be > 'run time gained'. I'm working on it, guys. Hopefully will have it nailed by Oct 9th.
