IM Lake Placid vs. IM Canada power comparisons

Just sitting here downloading my Garmin file for IM Canada and thought I'd compare it to IM LP from a month ago.   I am amazed at how both files are nearly identical.    Avg power is identical and NP is 1 watt higher at Canada.   TSS is only 5 points higher this time at 255.    VI = 1.06 for both events

What surprises me though is my run performance this time vs LP.    In LP, I went in with a good taper and had just tested FTP for a good number.    Run was 20+ min faster than any prior race at 4:10 and had an overall PR of 13 min.     Compare that to IMC and it was much hotter and the run was pretty tough.   Finished in 4:52 and about 20 min overall slower than LP.    I knew I was going to have some fatigue and it sure hit home combined with the high temps.

I think my FTP likely had dropped as well between events by a few points.   I didn't ever do another FTP test to validate where I was at and probably should have adjusted down to compensate and execute a better run.

I'm still OK with the race - had fun and really had no big goals, as I had already done a PR in LP.

Lesson learned - 2 IM races in about a month = tough day.

  •  4:52 on a day with a temp of 93 compared to 4:10/73F does not sound like much of a drop off at all to me. I would say, job well done!

  • Having done LP this year with you, my hat is off to you for ramping back up so quickly for IM Canada.
Great Job and X2 what Al said.
  • You should feel pretty damn good after 2 IMs in a month. The IMC run was absolutely brutal this year and I've done it 6x. I did IMCDA in '06 when it was mid to high 90s and this one was still harder.

    Congrats!!
