Two big weeks prior to Augusta in one month...

I'm four weeks out from Augusta and feeling great.  I'm thinking of doing two bigger weeks over this week and next, which would lead me into my two week taper.  My thought was to up my running by running almost everyday and then have a big bike week next week.  Is that a bad idea?  Should I try and then if I feel like I'm going to deep just back off?  Thoughts?  Thanks.

  • What plan are you following and what is your expectations for this race? "A", "B", "C" That is a fast course and I have to say-trust your plan. I think your better off hitting the plan and maintaining that "feeling great" feeling. After 15 1/2's including 2xAugusta, I'd just execute as instructed. Just my 2 cents
  • Sometimes, when I'm feeling pretty good about my fitness, I ramp it up cuz more is always better, right? Usually, since I don't know how to self coach very well, I end up sabotaging myself. NOT saying that you shouldn't do it. I've been feeling pretty good lately too for a buildup to the Rev 3 South Carolina and I've made a committment to stick to the plan and see how it plays out. I think RnP can predict where our fatigue/recovery needs are to the prescribed week and, for the most part, there's more to gain from sticking to the plans, far outweighing the risks of this kind of thing, especially this close to your race.

    just my thoughts,

good luck in Augusta. it's a fun race down there.
