Jan 31st Half

Hi folks - looking for some advice - running newbie (started 5 weeks ago on Dec Adv OS plan) - scheduled in a local 1/2 mara' (well 14miler on mixed terrain, so some off-road bits).

Thought a 1/2 would be good in order to get a feel of the distance - I'm focusing on 70.3's this season - and for the training benefit and pacing practice.

Apart from that, i don't have any other reason to do it and to be honest pretty neutral about it (no burning desire!) - also, worried about upping mileage when any injury 'niggles' so far have been via running.

Any thoughts on the real benefits of doing the race and also if its a good idea, what do I need to do in addition to my OS plan?

Thanks,

Dave

PS. Jan 31st so 3 weeks away........

  • Given your injury post (which I just read, you owe Leigh like 4 beers!) this race should be off the table. Being healthy all season long trumps motivation for short term every time. Especially in tricky areas like you are talking about...

  • Hi Patrick - the other thread has gone on some so I owe Leigh like a case of beers! Do think a lot of my twinges are down to yes, poor technique but also getting used to running impacts on my tendons/joints etc. The 14 mile race is also called the 'Heartbreak Half' - 'nuff said! :-)
