The Race Day Support/Cheering Section Thread
I know some very special laydeez have something very special planned for us for somewhere on the bike course (?). And with 30 athletes racing + family members + an EN flag + EN banner, we can create a big presence for ourselves out there on the courses, so let's brainstorm where we want to ask our families very, very nicely to meet us and cheer us on .
My proposal but certainly not the final word:
See the Bike Course:
My first choice is Old Sauk Road
- Easy access to it via Cleveland Road and Hwy 14
- Tree lined for shade
- The "start" of a key section of 3 big hills.
Run Course here
State Street, either the turnaround/hot corner, and/or the bit you do as mile 1, ~13, 25 of the run.
- Lots of places to eat, tons of fans, etc.
- People can hop back and forth on State to see you several times per lap: see you in the first mile, amble down the street and catch you at the turnaround, amble back up to see you again at ~ mile 12 and again after you hit RSN...then go back down the street to see you at the turnaround, then back up to the finish.
Our location last year was great but I think it might be too remote to get a large family presence out there?
Anyway...there you go. Let's get organized!

Both great suggestions. I've been on Midtown the last couple years and that is also great for bike spectating but it does require some walking to get to after you park. It's not shady either.
I also agree that the mile 18 spot is too remote. It does require quite a bit of walking as well. Staying in town sounds great!
Matt,
Our run spot last year was great because Observatory wasn't on the course so they went by us at the triangle 2x per lap. This year Observatory is back in so that spot will only get one-way traffic...I think?
Any other suggestions? I'm just thinking through my sales pitch to Joanne where I ask her to go here, go there, set up this flag, wear this shirt, etc. Lots of eye rolling will be involved, I expect, so trying to keep it simple, easy and convenient.
I like the run course idea. My sister volunteered at the first aid station -- Mile 1/13 and it was a fantastic place to see her. She was also in excellent position to tell me where everyone else was/how they were doing. I vote for that spot.
Should we plant something at Mile 18 for mojo?
I'm going pink bikini top shopping at lunch. Seriously. Because that's team love. Thank heavens I've been on the HIM/Invisalign diet this summer. =-)
We can also update/remake my IMWI google map, and distribute the link so everyone knows exactly where everything is. This map was super-helpful last year.

And can we have special spectator GroupMe?
