John - Several thoughts to emphasize, based on my own experience. (Recall that my serious accident a year ago was primarily due to my having just mounted my Joule on the stem, and looking too much and long at it there to see the slow moving pick-up in front of me in time.)
1. The King Cage mount, if you have a Chris King headset cap or something similar, is the bomb. < $10, and works great.
2. Now that I just spent 10 days/350+ miles in the aerobars with the King Cage, I've resolved to not put anything except water bottles there. Cleaning the Perform, or Gatorade, or waterever is beyond my minimalist approach.
3. Joule placement: I too was worried about jiggling with zip ties. I use FOUR ties, two through each set of holes in the back of the joule, seperated them, and pulled very hard with pliers. Again, my recent Big Bike Week revealed no sighting issue from jiggling or positioning with this. Thanks to Gina Hamel for this suggestion.
I'll attach a pciture to this thread of the joule placement if/when I can. my camera's battery is dead, and I'm about drive from CO to MT for my daughter's wedding.
