2 AM eating

seems like everyone is taking 500-600 calories at 2 am.  i have my "breakfast"  down but this 2 am thing is on my mind.  i don't like fruit smoothies..don't sit well with me.  i saw ensure, but i have never had it, but it is water based.  instinct tellsme to go with what i like and know i can stomach..english muffins with butter or chocolate chip cookies-250 cal each--or coke--does this look like a recipe for disaster, or is it so far away from the run that it does not matter much. Thanks!!!!!

  • Brian - I would not worry about the 2am meal. if you haven't done it before in a race or race simulation, skip it. This is not the time to try something new.

Also, fwiw, I will not set an alarm for the 2 am meal... if I happen to be up sometime between 1 and 2, I drink a smoothie or ensure. If I sleep right through I skip it and just eat a little bit more at 4 am when I wake up.
  • Brian,

My plan is similair to Matts for 2 am. If it happens, cool. If not, I needed the sleep more. Otherwise I'll probably eat something close to a real meal. These light breakfasts that everyone east doesn't really do it for me. My stomach is growling out on the bike if I don't take in enough before. I'll probably have a couple eggs and a bagel or something similair.
  • No 2:00 am thing for me. I like my sleep. Breakfast of ham sammy, greek yogurt and dt. coke. YUM!!
  • I don't set an alarm either. I will most likely be up to go to the bathroom at least once during the night. If not, no biggie.
