Pacing for Olympic Du (swim cancelled)

Doing the Reston Oly this weekend and just got word that the swim is cancelled because of the endless rain in the DC area. Swim being replaced by 2.22 mile run. Any thoughts on pacing given the change? Have never done a race like this so any thoughts on pacing all three segments apprecitated.

Thanks

  • Bill, I think it depends on what you are hoping to do here and what your experience level is. Are you there to win the AG? Have you done lots of Olympic distance races before and know how much it will hurt? :-) If you are there to win, you will need to hammer the entire time and it will hurt! So Zone 4-5 for that opening run, the bike, and then the final 10K. If you are a little less aggressive, I would take that 2.2 mile run maybe in zone 3 and then get on the bike and pace it and the run as you would have if there had been a swim. You want to set yourself up to have a great 10K run. So if hammering the first 2.2 mile run is going to nuke you, don't do it!

    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Ann,

Thanks that makes a lot of sense. Definitely not going to win any AG so will take first segment a little more controlled.

    Thanks again.
