Ironman Wisconsin 2012 Roll Call: Who's In?

And what sort of bet are we making with Rich that involves pink apparel?

For you new ENers,

Once upon a time, in 2009, a little ENer, named Beth, went to Wisconsin to spectate for Ironman Wisconsin  and sign up for next year's race and meet her mysterious online triathlon triathlon coaches and team. They turned out to be awesome. Over beers at the Great Dane, Rich told Beth that if she could get ten EN women to sign up for Ironman Wisconsin, he would spectate the next year in a pink speedo and afro wig (totally made this up himself). Through the magic of text messaging, bet was on. And chicas soundly won.

Rich spectated in pink speedo, along with eleven other brave and awesome ENers, including Patrick. Moo Jo the cow was named mascot. The chicas raced in pink visors. The EN training and racing mojo was at a record high.

Part of the wheeling and dealing to get the men in pink speedos was promising the chicas would represent in pink bikinis for 2011. Guess what I wore yesterday? (With tiara and tutu.)

To continue to tradition of Ironman Wisconsin's fantastic tradition of mojo building bets (which make us all faster) -- 364 days to Ironman Wisconsin 2012! Let's get this party started!

  • If I ever decide to race at IMWI...there's no question that I'll be wearing the pink speedo. I bust it out every now and then around the house...much to everyone in my family's chagrin...I think it looks pretty darn good if you ask me! I'm not signing up, but if we get enough folks and the stars align, I'll be there in PINK!h

That's awesome! I bet men who run in pink speedos have ridiculously fast run splits.

My current IMWI fantasy involves you and Noodle acting as my pink speedo man escort up the helix after I shave at least forty-five minutes off my swim time and party like a rock star to T1.

  • I'm in for 2012 as I have unfinished business on that course. Going to process what I learned from racing it this year and b!tch smack it next year. Not sure there's enough body glide or chamois cream to race in a pink, or any color, speedo through.
  • IN!!

And I got say: sitting here with probably the most sore quads I've ever had, eva. I could barely walk yesterday and flying home to LA was a big challenge. Only slept about 4hrs race night (too much caffeiene and shagged, got in about 1a last night. Look like all five toenails on my right foot will come off later this week...

But I already looking forward to recovering and getting back at. I'm going to troll Active.com tomorrow and register for about 4-5x half marathons through the spring, looking forward to training and running through the winter and entering January at my current 155lb vs my typical 173-75 dumbass weight, racing Wildflower, maybe a June, July half and generally keeping it rolling through IMWI next year.

For me, it has to be fun. I finished IMWI on Sunday and am now rolling into some great dirt biking next week in the Sierras with a good friend and then southern UT in early October. More moto-ing in November, then some great snowboarding trips, etc. Anyway, I've laid out a schedule for myself that's a good balance of all things I truly enjoy doing and it all just "fits" into a year that ends again with IMWI next year. Looking forward to it!

  • @Rich - did you pass on a Kona slot? Looks like on the results that the guy that finished after you got a slot?
  • Yes, I did not take the slot
  • Well I am happy to say I am in for IM 2012 along with 5 of my locals friends. Looking forward to the IM camp in July of 2012 and all the training leading up to 9/9/12. I have unfinished buisness with this course.

I will be partaking in IM St. George on 9/5/12 though and can't wait.
  • If I wasn't signed up for Tremblant, I would defiinitely be in next year. I loved Lake Placid in '09, and IMOO '11 exceeded my expectations. The build within the team the was great and the race related organization was seemless. The crowds were fantastic and the EN supports shone. Fantastic race with a great, constant vibe. I've already convinced myself that I have the physiology to cut another 60 minutes off my time...race report to follow image
  • @Rich:  Congratulations on a great race.  To your search for HMs, the good news is you've got a ton of local choices.

... I'm going to troll Active.com tomorrow and register for about 4-5x half marathons through the spring ...

    Consider, for example,

    Long Beach

    Huntington Beach

    Orange County

    Palos Verdes

    Pasadena

Pretty sure all have marathon/half-marathon options between now and about March/April.

Can't beat So-Cal winter weather for that kind of run training.  And if you wanted to run trails (not sure if you do w/ your ankle), there are the Bulldog and Catalina events.

None need more than about an hour drive.

    Im sure there are more.

    Enjoy your recovery!

  • Tim,

Yep, got it. Per usual, I'll fire up a challenge, friendly competition with some local guys and gals and hopefully together 1-2 fast paced group runs per week. The best I ever ran was when I built for myself a weekly 5.5-6 mile tempo run with a group. I basically raced a hilly ~10k every Monday evening. Worked perfectly.

  • I'm in. I decided on Saturday morning to sign up. I really enjoyed Thurs/Fri eating and drinking with the EN crew and felt so relaxed going into the race. If you you are triathlete in Chi, IMOO is the event of the year and I want to be in the game. Plus Rich might do a somersault next year at the end of the swim.
  • I am out for next year -- but may be there as a volunteer -- I can not imagine a better race than Madison -- between the EN team vibe and the fan support it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I would never have finished without the advice of RnP -- THANKS for helping me get across this line for the first time.
  • The Thompson brothers (Bruce & JT) are in for 2012.  We're excited to do Wisconsin as our 2nd IM.  We'll also probably attend the July training camp.  I plan on running some HM in the spring and doing some early summer OLY or HIM to add some race fun to the training.  Also, I know that EN member Claudia Langarica from my local Lifetime Fitness club has signed up too.  It will be her 1st IM.

  • I'll be volunteering and cheering on the team ... and all other participants. As a first-timer, I had an absolute blast - great to see team mates all over the course. Going to do Vineman in 2012 (wine as a recovery drink?)! And, if the schedule works, I'm happy to lend a hand at next year's tri-camp!
  • I'll be their in some capcity, either with a community slot or volunteer, with Karin racing Kona next year she will be dragging me out to do long rides and runs anyway, hope I can hang.

  • I am in for 2012. I was not able to get in for 2011 but got in for 2012. Cannot wait!
  • Yep - as my brother mentioned, we are In! Like Rich, really want to work on my running over the next year. Really think I can cut 30-45min out of my CDA run, since due to injury I wasn't able to train well...

Been a long, long time (since I was kid) that I had a Speedo on...and I'm positive it wasn't Pink! But love the idea of continuing the challenge. Must think of something!

    Looking forward to it!
  • One other question, and I know it is early, but does anyone know when the training weekend will be for WI 2012? I need to get stuff planned as soon as possible given my business travel obligations. Thanks.

Very early for PnI to be thinking about that. We chose this years date based on the input of the team regarding the timing of RR's in the training plan, local races, etc to maximize participation. So for now I'd say I see no compelling reason to change it and that it will likely occur on the same date/weekend as this year.

  • I'm in! Looking forward to the hilly course...and the legendary EN presence!
  •  Thanks for the info. I will pencil in that weekend at this point then.

  • I'm in for 2012. Have yet to finish one!!! Pumped to get it done! Christian, I really want to come and volunteer at Tremblant next year and volunteer for the following year! Im thinking about doing the 1/2. Hopefully see you there!
  • I'm in for IMWI 2012
  • My shoulder seems to be healed and swimming should come back soon. I'M IN!
  •  I'm in! Did it this year and back for more punishment in 2012!

  • In again, round 2!!

  • I'm new to the team (and first post here in the forums) and I will be racing IM WI next year as well.  It will be my 3rd time racing the course and I'm looking to get back after skipping 2010 and 2011 and take care of some unfinished business.  I'm Looking forward to a great year.

  • I'm in.  After Placid in 08 (went great for me...love the rain), I've had lots of issues that have kept me from doing any racing and really no training at all over the last 1.5 years.  I was about 30lbs over what I raced in 08 and have already cut that down to only about 20lbs over.  FTP is about 25 watts below what it was.

That being said I have a BHAG (google it, if you don't know what it means) of getting a Kona spot.  Did 10:42 at placid and figure I need to take off about 30-40 minutes to get it.  I'm giving myself a couple of years (original goal was to get it in the 35-39 group, but I'm running out of time, so I'll adjust) to get there, but IMWI needs to be a step in that direction.  Staring official Out season in November.

    Dave
