Training advice with a newborn?
we welcomed our new addition to the family into the world on Sunday morning. Jon Davis Holcomb, 8lb 11oz and 22.5 inches long.
Needless to say the last 72 hours have been a whirlwind blur and I haven't done any training of course. We are going home from the hospital today and I hope to at least get out and do a good run to stretch my legs. Any advice on how to jump back into the workouts? I am doing IMFL in about 7 weeks and missed my 5 hour ride this past weekend. Definitely planning to get the 6 hour ride in this coming weekend though. My thought is to jump back into the plan like I didn't miss those three days. I am also going to make sure I hit all the runs and swims and if a workout has to be skipped then it is a bike, though I am hoping I won't have to skip a workout at all.
Back when I signed up for IMFL we didn't know that we'd be having a new addition, amazing how that worked out...

From everything I have ever seen in the forums, you've got it --- Jump back into the plan like you didn't miss those three days. Also, don't try and make up the missed workouts or anything like that. Doubling up your workouts could put you into a deep hole and you are already going to be sleep-deprived as it is.
Congrats again!
Yes just pick it up but be careful as you are going to be tired as you know.
Congrats
Thanks All.
Coach P, I needed that "Ironman will always be there" reminder today as I was stressing over missing most of my workouts this week. I am going to do all I can to get my workouts in but I am not going to stress out over any of it. IMFL will be my first IM distance but definitely not my last. (though I do think I am going to focus on 70.3 distance and getting faster in general next year with a little one in the house...)
Thanks for the reality check!

More seriously, congratulations! Prioritize sleep over everything else and make sure you don't get sick.
No children on my own, but my sister trains with the three year-old all the time. a) rejoice when the child is old enough to ride in the jogging stroller, b) maybe you can set up good couple habits by trading out downtime with mom? You work out and then take over baby and give mom some down time, too?
And take care not to train yourself into a brick wall. Those babies don't like to give parents much sleep -- so you may have to be extra good about the things you can --hydration, nutrition, ice baths, etc.
