I got me them fancy racin' tires...
I went in on the group buy to get the awesome racing tires and the latex tubes and I am pumped to rock a more frictionless Kona. That said, I have about 4 more rides before I pack the bike, and a few of them will be on the trainer. Is it a bad idea to put these fancy go fast tires on the trainer for 2-3 hours...or is that a wicked bad idea?
Thanks!!!!

I've found the trainer flattens out the rounded tire profile in no time. (And as science tells us, a flattened profile is significantly less fancy than a rounded profile).
I would build on Matt's point, and use these outdoors only, in the weeks leading up to the race.
Assume 1 trainer hour is 3 times the wear that road use is, so effectively 60 miles. (Seems pretty aggressive to me)
3 hours on trainer = 180 miles. Unless there is really a special deshaping mojo that I can't figure out, you should be fine.
The difference between trainer and flat road is that the angles are more acute because pressure is spread out less. This means the tire (depending on how much pressure you put on the contact) may be deformed more than when on flat ground. That can explain increased wear on them and premature flattening, but I still have trouble seeing how you will kill them in 2-3 hours.

My trainer has much higher resistance than real world... I only go 75-80% of outdoor pace, so I was just making an assumption (same watts). I guess I just got the extra thick fluid. :-)
Totally fine, P. I made it through all of last winter and half the summer on last year's set of Vittoria Open Corsa CXs.
