Race or Train?
Morning all,
Need some quick advice for this coming weekend. I am doing IMFL and this weekend is a schedule 4.5 hour ride on Saturday and 3.0 hour ABP ride on Sunday followed by a 30 minute brick. The last week has been a bit crazy between the birth of our son on the 18th and then a crash/equipment failure on the RR ride on Saturday. So here's my question for the haus...
My wife is taking the kiddo's on Saturday to an event because she knew I would be training all morning. I have an option to do the long ride or pick up an International distance race. Which option should I choose?
Option A:
Stick to the training plan and do the 4.5 hour ride on Saturday and the Sunday planned workout.
Option B:
Race the Pinehurst International distance tri on Saturday and then do Saturday's scheduled ride on Sunday? (perhaps pick up some extra bike time on the trainer Saturday PM after the race?)
There are a couple reasons this is appealing to me:
- One more open water swim, can't get enough of these.
- I really struggled with shoulder fatigue at my last race and have since purchased a desoto T1 wetsuit to help with this (Based on the feedback here from EN). This would be my only chance to do an open water swim in this wetsuit prior to IMFL.
- The race is realitvely close to my house and I wouldn't have to overnight, just drive over and race and back home.
Thoughts from the crew?

My $0.02 for an option I didn't see: Race then add some Z3 cycling after the race to get you up to about 4 hours of riding total on the day. Then back to the plan on Sunday.
Oh, and kick some ass.
Have fun!
Given that you just had a kid (congrats!) I think you should very carefully ask your wife what you should do
