How To Do A Proper EN Race Rehearsal

Hi All:

One of the things I noticed this year was that many of the newer EN folks did not truly understand how we in EN do proper race rehearsals.  Since this weekend is our first of two race rehearsals, I figured this thread was appropriate.

Your training plan will include 1-2 race rehearsals before your goal race. Here is guidance to help you navigate this very important training event.

Lotsa vets in the group.  Feel free to ask questions if you have any after reading the Wiki post via the link above.

  • I'll just add the 2¢ I always put in about the RR's. The number one piece of data I get from them is how I feel and perform on the run. If I run faster than expected - LRP + 30 sec for the first 3 miles, LRP for the second - that mean I shuld have biked a bit harder. If I feel poorly on the run and/or go slower than expected, that means I'd better re-think my pacing strategy for the bike, and/or I made mistakes with nutrition and/or hydration.

  • Check the race execution forum for my latest report which includes my plan (which I didn't post pre-rehearsal). I got the format from Matt Ancona so I can't take credit. But I copied, pasted into word file, and saved. Then I just modify it accordingly before each rehearsal and copy/paste to a new forum post.
  • @Terry:  This one?  http://tinyurl.com/5tnqgem

Nice job.  I like how you did each hour as an interval.

  •  I copied Terry's format for my RR plan here:  http://tinyurl.com/5rurzl7

Man, this is getting real now.

  • @ John - that's the one!
  • Okay...can someone tell me where to post my RR plan? Thanks!
  • @ jennifer - post in race execution discussions in main forums for maximum exposure
