Why Infinit?

I am trying to decide if it is worth trying Infinit. Currently, depending on various things, I use Perpetuem or Accelerade. Am looking for info/feedback as to why one is or is not better than others. All comments welcome. Thanks.

  • I used Accelerade before Infinit; switched several years ago and never looked back.

    I've found advantages are:
-fully dissolves, no nasty powder clumps left in the bottle
-you can adjust the amount of everything: like protein (Accelerade had too much for my GI system, and I would always get uber gassy using it), electrolytes, flavor, amino acids, carbs...everything.
-if it's warm it's tolerable. not HOT, mind you (Accelerade tasted NASTY to me if it was barely warm, not to mention hot---YUCK!)
-personal consultation by phone, totally worth it.

Yes, it is a little more pricey (EN gets a discount for it tho) than the average powder drink, but totally worth it if you ask me.
  • X2 on what Scott said,You can customize every part of it. I am still amazed at how that much powder will disolve. I don't know how they do it. being able to dial down the flavor when your working with a 3 hour concentrate bottle is worth the price. Also, Pushing up or down the sodium is a huge benefit. Keeps things real simple on the bike..
  • 3x yes on Infinit.  Worked like a charm @ IM CDA this year.  I did all my race rehersals with it  - no GI problems during rehersals or the race.  I have a bike formula that has protein, 475 mgs of sodium, and 275 calories for a normal serving.   I had a 3x concentrated  bottle on my bike and another 3x bottle in BSN.  My run formula has slightly lower calories (240/normal serving), same sodium level,no protein, but adds caffiene.  Did the IMCDA run with a fuel belt that had the run formula in the small bottles, and picked up 2 additional bottles in RSN.  I did the whole race on just water,  Infinit + 1/2 bagel on the bike (I practiced that on my RRs so I knew it would work).  No bonk, no cramps, no GI problems.

I also use the run formula on the bike for shorter races, like an Olympic.   Don't really need the protein or too many calories and   the caffiene is a nice kick.  Also, I have dialed the flavor strength way down so that the flavor isn't too strong when you 3x concentrate it.

  • x4 for Infinit! I swear by it now. I used a 3hr bottle on the bike and a 2.5hr bottle in BSN. I froze them both the day before and kept it in an insulated bag with ice inside my BSN bag. Worked like a charm and entered the run fat and happy. I found the lemon-lime flavor the most tolerable while warm but have the flavor dialed down all the way to the lowest possible amount. I think I was ~285cal per serving with a hint of protein and lots of sodium. If you give me your email address, I'd be happy to "slingshot" you my formula as a starting point. I use the absolute minimum on flavor because I never really use my infinit if it's less than a 2.5hr workout so I always have it very concentrated.

Next yr, I'm gonna use it on the run as well, but have never actually tried that before.
  • used hammer and other products before.  gi tolerance issues.      now all nutrition in one bottle for the bike.   others don't like it but one five hour bottle works well for me (very concentrated taste).     no need to carry other nutrtion.      infinit between my aeorbars.      two water bottles on the frame.  simple.

  • I have used Infinit now for 2 years in both IM and HIM races and training.  I am so comfortable having it dialed in that I cannot tolerate much of anything else.  On occaision when I have tried something else, I have intestinal issues.  Well worth the piece of mind once you have it dialed in correctly...............

  • Michael: Why are you looking at changing? My take: If you have something that works, stay with it. If it isn't working, that is when you look to change.
  • What Penny said.

I like Infinit. I especially like that you can seriously dial down the flavor. This makes a huge difference when drinking lots of it.

On that note, I do like HEED, because I can drink it warm and don't hate it.
  • Thanks to all for all of the comments. Very helpful as usual.
  • A little left-field anecdote: as a former IM guy completely happy with Infinit, I started doing brevets (ultra long distance self supported cycling) and kept right on using Infinit. No one in that world had heard of it as everyone uses Hammer products. I ran out this winter while pursuing an R-12 award (a 200+k brevet per month for 12 consecutive months) and tried to wing it. Wrong! I struggled to keep up with my caloric needs, constantly on my back foot.

I recently completed Paris-Brest-Paris, a prestigious 1230k brevet held once every four years. I'm convinced that the 26 servings of Infinit that I lugged along contributed to my success over that grueling course.
  • Bill,
What's the duration of a 1230k long ride?
  • My guess is less than 90 hours... Curious to hear how many hours less... And that is a LOT of Infinit!
