The Smoothie & Veggie Thread

having heard of more than a few ENers that are believers in fruit smoothies & vegetables. I was wondering what most people toss in their blenders and how they prepare different veggies, please share your favorites!

  • Breakfast smoothie (given to me by my nutritionist):
1 banana, 100cals of whey protein, 2 tbsp of shredded unsweetened coconut, 2 tbsp flax seed, 1 teaspoon glutamine, 2 cups of frozen berries, 1.75 cups cold water. Blend.

For long days where I'm going 3+ hours, I also add in 1/4 cup quaker oats.
  • I  totally wing it.  So much so that my kids notice "batch-to-batch" variability.

My general recipe is - 3-4 cubes of ice, blueberries (fresh or frozen depending on cost), strawberries (or other frozen fruit), 1 scoop whey protein powder (30g protein), some juice, few scoops of yogurt.  I use a Magic Bullet.  I don't like bananas.

See!  No real recipe.  Mix it up and drink it down.

  • My go to Fruit Smoothie Recipe:

    1 cup 1% milk

    1 cup OJ

1-2 scoops Whey Protien Vanilla (27-54grams)

    Frozen Banana Slices  (they're AWESOME)

    Frozen Strawberries

Another Delicious Smoothie - fills you up and keeps you going until lunch for sure

    1 cup 1% milk

    1-2 scoops Whey Protien (chocolate)

    2 tablespoons Peanut Butter

    1 Banana (fresh or frozen)

  • My favorite way to prepare veggies is on the grill with a little olive oil and seasoning salt. OR  using a large skillet- get it hot and add a little olive oil add the veggies ( green beans, brocolli, cauliflower) then toss with a little seasoning salt until just starting blacken. The blackening carmelizes the sugars in the veggies and makes them taste great.

  • Nearly every vegi tastes best roasted with a little olive oil & salt. Plus, it's so easy to prepare!
