  • Whew! I was hoping they'd get it into production in time for me to have NP and TSS goodness on my 800 for IMFL...thanks Tucker!

  • Been reading on Google wattage and all have positive reviews. NP and other stats exactly match WKO.

I've updated the firmware but haven't tested it yet.
  • Unfortunately my quarq is on it's way to Austin right now so I can't fully test. I did update my edge 800 yesterday and it went smooth and kept all my settings.

With the addition of the lap summary page it looks like Garmin is trying to also get better at on unit data analysis, which is the only area I think the Joule currently has an advantage over the edge.

@Marc - if i was you I would download it right now, just so you can use it yourself for the next two weeks before Florida. If you run into issues a search of the garmin forums or a call to Garmin support and you can roll back to the previous version.
  • It'd have been nice if they planned to give the Edge 705 some advanced power love as well.
  • Not happening Cary. Time to upgrade.
  • I'll have to live w/o the advanced TP power features as my Edge 705 is working just fine. It's a shame because they did %FTP (Effectively NP) on the 310xt a while ago and I would have thought they'd at least have added that to the 705.
  • Tucker: any visibility as to when this is coming to the 310XT?
  • @Scott,
The 310xt will get power metrics. But they will come after the Edge 500 gets them first. I'm thinking November sometime for the 500 and December for the 310. Don't think you'll have it for IMAZ but hopefully I'm wrong.

On the plus side, Hunter Allen said in the Wattage forum that everything has been going great. Data has all matched and no problems that they know of. So hoping that speeds up the release of firmware for the other two devices.
  • not looking for it on the watch for me. I have a joule 2.0 AND a 310xt. GF is getting into the game and i am getting her going with my PT wheel from my roadie and was thinking of upgrading to the 910 and giving her my 310 so long as i can get her IF & TSS, sounds like we will be there shortly
  • I"m one of those annoyed guys that doesn't understand why they can't port this to my perfectly functional 705. Looks like the used market is $150 for a 705, and the neew is $450 for the 800. I want these metrics, but I'm having a very hard time deciding I need to spend $300+ to get them.

I guess it would be cheaper to just buy the 500 and keep the 705 around for when I really wanted to use the maps.

Suppose what I really ought to do to be cost effective is use the quick mount and my 310xt... but I'll admit to being addicted to having more fields than 4!

Any thoughts on cost-effective paths for those of us who already have these legacy products? It really stinks they're not going to make their perfectly good computers handle this.
  • @William - I agree it would be nice if they put it on all of their devices, however I'm glad that they are at least going back to a number of devices and not forcing us to buy a new device for it. Many companies wouldn't even do this or would charge for a software update (i.e. Saris Ant+ software update for $100). While I don't think Garmin is perfect by any means, I do think they do a good job of continuing to improve past devices and not charging for upgrades.

If I were you, I would look for an edge 500 on sale... I got mine for just over $200 brand new from an authorized dealer almost 2 years ago, so I'm sure you can find a similar deal now if you look around. The edge 500 will do routes/courses... it just does not have a base map for routing on the fly.

  • @ William: a quick search came up with Garmin 800 for 305 @

Like you, I have the 705 and am debating the upgrade.
  • @Matt- I agree the 500 is a great device. I have a store I can get things at a standing 13% discount (-20 + sales tax), but I think Garmin is smart enough to know that's a great device at its price... will have to be a dealer sale probably rather than a Garmin sale until such point as they're coming out with a successor soon! :-)
