Who's in for Philly this year?

So, it seems like we've got several folks heading down for Philly in about a month.  Roll call time!  May need to set up a meetup.

Comments

  • Philly Time!...I'm in.  Are you local?

  • no, coming down from Mass. I'm staying at the Hilton Garden Inn.
  • I'm in too. Coming in Saturday, staying at Four Points. I know Chris Gleason and Jonathan Lieberman are running as well.
  • So far, that makes

    Joe L
    David M
    Chris G
    Jonathan L
    Mike G

    Anyone else?
  •  I'll be there. Staying in the suburbs with a friend.

  • Can I suggest a dinner after the marathon. That allows everyone to do their own thing the night before. I am also gluten intolerant and will not care if I get cross contamination after the race, but before would be nasty, so I have chosen a restaurant to go to that offers gluten free options. I will be arriving Friday and leaving Monday. We are staying at the Alexandar Inn Spruce at 12th Street. Cell number is 613-762-1132, but please text, as it is expensive for roaming costs for this Canuck.
  • Brenda - not a bad suggestion- I have a Local  Tri Club dinner the evening prior as well....post race chow/beer might work better.

btw - Will everyone be sporting EN gear?...I will be wearing EN Tri Top with regual run bottoms (I think)....this will disappoint my local club..but I wore Philly Tri Club Kit for IM Loo..(didn't have EN gear yet)

    My text 9084423774.

Hope to see ya at the races...Oh and BIB#2598 CORRAL# 3-black

    Cheers

  • I will take your text number down. I will be wearing the same as you Joseph. EN Tri top, black bottoms, white hate.
  • I'll be there spectating the wife.
  • Tucker, you need to go to a marathon to do that? :-)

I have no idea what I'll be wearing just yet. I'm pretty finicky based on weather. But the EN tri top is still in play (I have an older blue one). Possibly over a long sleeve.

Bib # 631, corral #2 (maroon). I'll be at the kids' race on Saturday morning with my two kids running, then over to the expo. Love to hear from anyone who's around. Cell # 617-259-0073.

  • Tri top may be too chilly for me
    Maybe EN hat?

Staying at Four Points Sheraton Sat night
  • Regular running shorts, EN Tri top, and gloves...maybe armwarmers...I like the armwarmers...but have tended to get too much underarm abrasion with the armwarmers...

  • Hard to fathom the tragic events of the weekend...and that it involved another EN Team member as well.

I myself had a bad day...out too fast (under 7:30's at the half which I held until around mile 18-19 then both a physical and mental rash & burn at the Manyunk turnaround mile 20 (2:34)...then the long painful march back up and back along Kelly drive...finishing in 3:40 (yes ...thats correct ...so the last 6 took me 66min)....How did each of you make out?

  • I had a great day. Almost feel bad saying that, because of Chris. Last year I did Boston and had a horrible race. I was in pain at the 25km mark. The race before that when I qualified for Boston was in Washington and I was in pain from 21km onward, so needless to say I had a bone to pick with my next marathon. I really wanted to feel good the whole time while trying to requalify for Boston just to show myself that I did deserve to be there last year. I trained differently than in the past and was not sure if it was going to pay off, but I am happy to say that although it was not a PB ( missed that by 14 minutes (dang potty break and stretch breaks for calf) I did manage to qualify for Boston again (with the new standards). I do not plan on going to the race next year (done that, got the medal), but it does boost me up to know that I could if I wanted to. I probably could of run harder, as I am upright and practically running already, but I did not feel the pain until the last 2 miles and that is the way I like it.
  • Don't feel guilty about having a good race B. You did a great job and I'm proud of you. Surely Chris would not want any of us to feel guilty about a good athletic performance. Congrats on the BQ.

  • B, +1 on Jeff's comments. Congrats on the BQ.

Don't know where my day went wrong. I was on BQ pace through the halfway point, and it felt great. Lost about a minute to pace through 19 (most of that was a pee break), but the wheels completely came off, and I limped in the last 6 miles to finish in 3:53. Quads are completely, totally trashed, and I suspect it's time to get myself looked at by a few gait people to figure out how to fix my weird quad-dominant motor patterns, which are holding me back.

I was frustrated, but frankly, feel like shit even thinking about performance after the news about Chris. Haven't really spent any time dissecting my own race, I just keep running through all of our conversations that weekend...
  • Mike, we were close. I did a 3:54:44.
  • Brenda, that's the first thing anybody's said about the race that's made me smile. Thank you. I'm sorry to have missed the chance to meet up with you in Philly. Hope to change that at the next opportunity.
  • Hey Mike - join the club...and I am also sorry I didn't get a chance to meet everyone....but just FYI one thing to consider is that while the air temp only got up to low 50's the dew point was 45...it was 90%+ relative humidity....it was not ideal conditions for "red-lining"...I know it impacted me...on top of going out too fast.

    Cheers all.
