Help me plan my season

I have signed up for my A race (Challenge Roth) of 2012,  and have now started looking at which secondary races to do as well.

I would like to do 2 maybe 3 HIM's before Roth...

2012 will be my 9th season of doing tri's and IM's, and I feel that I recover fairly quickly....still, some of the races are very close to each other.... is it realistic...?

I have plotted the potential races in a spreadsheet... prefered races in bold.

I'm open to suggestions as to which races to do/not do...

Ideas, suggestions?

  • Bo - I"m looking at your spreadsheet and it appears that you want to do all 3 HIMs in the weeks between 15 April and 1 July. That does seem pretty tight spaced to me unless they are clearly B/C races. I don't know about you but it's hard for me to treat any race as anything other than all out. I'll be doing at least 3 HIMs and 1 IM next year but each is fully spaced out to train properly. But at least you won't burn out. My only hard recommendation would be to cut the one the week before Roth. That doesn't make any sense to me.
  • Bo, I'd go with the earlier two races, saving the last 6 weeks to be solely IM focused. This will give you some wiggle room if you need to add/remove training in order to arrive at Roth in peak fitness. Feel free to schedule half marathon or other winter fun events earlier in your year (during the OS) if that helps too!
