2011 NOS Pain Cave Pics - Whatcha got?

Comments

  • Very nice! My pain cave is undergoing a mini-makeover, should have some pics in a few weeks. But mine is a true cave (read: unfinished basement) in comparison to yours.

Pretty spartan, but it works: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16742172/PainCave.JPG

Jim, Nice.  What do you have written on the clipboard and what are the videos.

  • The videos are spinnervals, which I used to use from time to time but have not since starting last year's OS. I've actually given up using any kind of video/TV - I just found it distracting. Good music and my iPod works for me. The clipboard has the day's workout. I usually put that week's workouts into word file at the beginning of the week, with all the power/pace calculations done ahead of time. Makes it a little mentally easier during the workout, so I can just focus on getting through the intervals!

Here we go, my basic setup. this is in my basement, where I have a halffloor window which I can open.

My Kellermonster (roadbike+trainer), a vent, a PC linked and 2 mirrors.

Not a nice place, but a good place to do work.

  • The only way you'll find me on the trainer this year is if I run out of daylight.

  • @dave, i wish i had your climate, nice pool / nice ghosty artwork (faster than low light image ) btw.

you have a point now I remember that i did last year some trainer rides in Mar/Feb outside in the snow, I like the pain cave idea because of the minimal setup costs, but maybe it would be good do some trainer rides outside for a change and for fresh air.

I will post the picture than.

  •  @Kai - as a new member you are probably unaware that I was the EN "king of cold."  Up until this past August, I lived in MA and rode outside all winter because I hate being on the trainer.  I'm really pleased that I was able to pack away all my winter gear for good.  This winter, I don't expect I'll need anything more than what I used to wear in the fall.

Both photos were single exposures while I was on the trainer.  No artwork or photoshop.

  • David, King of Cold ... nice story, I had no idea.
I actually like the winter time and the snow, I do in winter some biking with my mountain bike, i am to scared of the slippery road. I hope you like the your new place, the picture still looks awesome esp, considering no digital effects.

  • Just finished painting what will turn into my pain cave too...
  •  Finally got a pic of our pain cave....well...finally got it cleaned up enough to take a pic image  Notice the bike bottle on the left bike's aero bars.  It's my SO's fuel bottle from our last race which was in September.  I'm not touching that thing...nasty!

We bought our house almost 2 years ago and were the first owner.  A week after we moved in, we ripped up a large area of carpet in the basement.  Was a little scary, but worth it.  The floor is rubber that you purchase in rolls from Menards.   Stunk horrible the first week, but is fine now.  Very easy to clean up.

My time on the trainer is spent watching what my SO affectionately refers to as my 'crap shows'.  Good time to get caught up.  For the part of the workout with FTP intervals, I watch TV shows on DVD so I don't have to deal with fast forwarding through commercials during intervals.  For the rest of the workout I watch shows on the DVR.

Half of our bikes are in the picture...the other half in the garage.  Everyone needs 4 bikes each, right?
