Might have broken my toe!

As some of you saw on the IMAZ dashboard; I was walking back from my bathroom to bed early this morning, in my pitch black apartment, and stubbed my toe against the doorframe.

I think I might have broken it. It's pretty swollen, and black and blue and pink/red, and every step hurts.

I'm taking aleve, and am icing it as much as I can. But this SUCKS! So much for my running, which was just starting to come together.

Even better timing with IMAZ 3 weeks away!!!

  • Most likely just trauma but you will never know without an x-ray.
  • i am going to start to wear an armoured suit 4weeks from my races.

if it's just the distal toe that is painful and not where the toe connects to the rest of the foot, then will heal with time even if broken. if pain at metarasal area, then might want an xray and a more fancy immobilization boot.

3 weeks out, it will be sore on race day, but just tape it to the neighbor toes and you should be fine.

  • quick reply and i spelled 'metatarsal' incorrectly. sorry.
  • At this point "the hay is in the barn", taper is starting. Baby it for running and have a blast at IMAZ.
I broke my little toe 1 week before a 10 mile race. I was doing the race with friends and had no intention of missing it. My toe really hurt by the end of the race, but it wasn't unbearable.
After that, I put it up and let it heal properly.
  • I did the same thing to the SAME TOE about 8 weeks prior to Kona. Tape now, ice and aleve. Give it 3 days no running and then see how it is...most likely fine.

ps - why are your feet so pretty???? image
  • Did almost exactly the same thing down to the same toe 2 days before last HIM. Only it was a chair not a door jam. Regardless. Even though it hurt, I was able to bike and run with minimal pain. To be honest after the first 1-2 min of the bike I did not even think about the toe until it started to hurt pushing off ~ mile 10 of the run. Even then the pain was minimal. With 3 weeks to go you should be good to go.
