Calibration for joule?
Doing my week 1 os bike test bright and early tomo am. I am brand new to power and not that techy so I apologize in advance if this is a ridiculous quest, but want to make sure my joule is calibrated correctly before the sufferfest begins. The manual says to check if raw torque and offset torque are the same, and if they are not the same, to hold in the joystick to do a manual zero. So my raw and offset torque are not the same, reading 4505 and 0509 respectively. When I press the joystick in, they fluctuate a bit, but not by much and remain largely the same. Does that mean I'm OK? Also, another question....when I paired the joule with the power tap, it automatically gave me a wheel circumference of 2096mm. Can I just assume that is correct (it's the hed belgian wheel bought through the group)? Thanks so much! Looking forward to learning a lot more about this stuff so I can eventually help someone else! -- Jenn

Your Joule is fine. The calibration/offset stuff is more of an issue with non PT power meters. A PT hub does an auto zero every time that you coast. If you are not pedaling and the watts are not 0 then you have a problem, if not you are good. I "think" the wheel circumference should be fine out of the box as well. There is a chart in the book if I am not mistaken to adjust for tire size. That will only matter for speed and distance which do not matter on the trainer regardless. Congrats on being Powerful! Enjoy the OS!
Thanks,
Mike
Mike:
I'm a Garmin/Quarq user not a Joule/Quarq user, but a few common troubleshooting thoughts:
1. are you using the most current firmware for the Joule
2. is the magnet on the frame getting picked up?
3. do you have another ant+ computer you can test it on to see if it is the quarq or the joule?
In answer to your question, I assume so. It is a brand new 2.0. I assume the magnet is getting picked up because when I ride it it does display the power reading on the Joule. I have a node, but I don't think it will display power...
