SN bag

Team - What are the general thoughts on the SN bags for IMAZ?  I was planning to have my second half of nutrition for the bike and spare tubes and air...but not sure what else to put in.  I have no clue for what if anything is required for the run SN bag.

  • I would put anything that you might need. I know someone said they are restricting what you can now put in there so not sure if these things are legal still: tubes, CO2, nutrition, pain relievers, sun screen, clothing (if weather is iffy), extra socks, duct tape (for blisters etc.), treat (if you've trained for this), headlamp. Also, some people have not been able to recover their bag after the race so make sure you dont put anything you mind losing. I'm sure others have some more guidance.

  •  Andrew - For my bike SN I'm going to have 3 bottles of infinit mix.  I just toss my water bottles when I'm done with them.  I ride tubulars, so I'll likely have 1 pre-glued tire that I don't mind losing, 2 co2, 1 vittoria pit stop.  If I don't flat before bike SN, I'll grab only my bottles and go.

For my run SN, I'll have a water bottle with mix that I'll carry and a long sleeve t-shirt (thickness weather dependent) to fight the cool if needed.  Again, will find a shirt I don't mind losing if I don't need it.  Salt, Ibuprophen I'll just carry in a little ziplock tucked in my tri-top out of T2.

The only thing you might need in run SN is a warm shirt/light vest if you're going to be out there as the sun goes down and the temps drop.

  • Are special needs available on any of the laps? If so, once you go to a special needs back, can you come back a lap later?
  • The athlete guide says we can only access it on the 2nd loop:

"On the bike course, the special needs station at mile 63 (located on Beeline Hwy and Gilbert Rd) is available on the way back (southbound) during the 2nd loop. Due to the three-loop nature of the bike course, athletes are reminded that the bike special needs station will not be available until after 9:45 a.m. You will only get one opportunnity[sic] to access your bike special needs bag"
  • You might think about an extra pair of socks in a ziplock baggie to keep them dry for the run special needs bag. Especially if the weather calls for rain.
  • Thanks team...excellent feedback
  • The run Special needs is just east of Tempe Beach Park which you come across after coming back across the Mill Street Bridge, given the nature of the course (3 loops) and the volume of participants, they really have no way of monitoring what loop you are on, i seem to remember that i could have gotten my SNB on any loop of the course last year.
