modify length of IP intervals??

As I was cruising through the Wednesday's IP intervals (did them yesterday), I was wondering if the same theory as lengthening the VO2 max intervals could apply.  I feel as though I could do an infinite number of 200 sets at quicker than my IP pace without even breaking a sweat.  This isn't because I'm superhuman, but over 30 years of playing basketball and doing an infinite number of sprints must have shaped my biology in such a way that these are really easy.  However, as the duration of any set increases, my ability to perform it effortlessly definitely decreases.   So much so, that I still really struggle with the TP work that we've been doing the first few weeks.

Therefore, my question is:  rather than doing 4 x 200, would it benefit me to be modifying this to 2 x 400, 1 x 800 or even some other combination of longer intervals?  would this be the same as doing a 2.5'/2.5' VO2 max instead of the 30/30's?

  • I hear what you are thinking but I am really, really hesitant to say yes b/c of potential issues. Would rather you extend workout to full hour, or do intervals and then some solid HMP running at the end. IOW I would let the rTSS pile up in a slightly more manageable way...
  • thanks, will do.....extend the time or hit the HMP.
