Gear Bag - What to include

I drop my bike off tomorrow with tribiketransport for shipment to IMAZ.  I've gone through the checklists, etc for what to pack overall, but any thoughts on what to include in the gear bag vs. with me on the plane?

I'm thinking gear bag will have aero helmet, extra tubes, CO2, water bottles, pedals, shoes, and that's about it.   I'll carry nutrition with me along with my wetsuit.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

  • I do the opposite. Nutrition goes with the bike as then I don't have to deal with the tsa with bags of white powder and random containers of gel. Tools, water bottles, maybe a towel, etc go in gear bag.

Race clothes, bike and run shoes, computer/watch and pedals always go with me.
  • I'm with Matt. Take your shoes (run and bike) and pedals with you for sure.

    And have a great race!!

  • They might not like the CO2 on the plane. Have a plan to buy some more if they remove it from your bag or make you throw it away.
  • If you're using a ground transportation company, like TriBike Transport, you can leave your co2s (and any extras you might want) on the bike. No problems there.

I still take my race clothes, helmet, shoes (bike and run), any electronics and pedals with me - on plane, in car, whatever.
Nutrition powder, like Matt, goes with the bike as well.
  • I assume that by gear bag you are talking about the TriBike Transport option as opposed to what you might take on the plane. Definitely include your CO2 cannisters and heavier tools if you use the TBT gear bag option. But I'm kind of like Matt; when I travel, I take my helmet, bike shoes, run shoes, goggles, tri-suit, and most race essentials with me on the plane in case my checked luggage decides to take a scenic detour.
