OCT OS - Week 7: Run

This week looks to be somewhat of a "taper" week for me. My Wednesday run is just like week #5, Saturday run a lot less, and Sunday off.

Hope everyone is healthy and ready to test next week! Be sure to post your workouts here in these threads to keep our group motivation going. image

  • Just couldn't get the motor warmed up and running like it should this morning. My target time was 7:17/mi and AVHR was 162-168.

    4X 1mi (5')@Z4 came up with: 7:41/144; 7:28/150; 7:25/154, and 7:09/157

Although I felt better than Monday, I felt a little tired and sore. Anyone else in the same boat?
  • Joe- I am sore 24/7 of the OS and that's no freaking joke !!!
  • My workouts are a bit mixed up this week because I am doing a 5k on Sunday for my FTP test, but I have to say my motivation has been a bit lacking. Up until this week I have been cruising right along, but suddenly hit a motivation wall! It is cold in the morning and I just want to sleep!! image I have been doing my workouts in the day so I can sleep in a bit, but I do miss having them done early! Next week I will get back on the early morning horse!

Did a modified wko today, 2x10, 1x12 then a 3 mile run with uphill strides. Once I got warmed up I felt great!
  • It's nice to know I'm not the only one that's thrashed this week. Like Annie I had been cruising along to this week and then bam, the ton of bricks dropped on me. Cut todays 3X1 mi at Z4 to 2X1 mi at Z4 and will likely modify tomorrow's ride too. At this point it's all about recovery to test okay next week going into the VO2 max block. I think I'm going to need to pay closer attention to training paces particularly on the run as I've consistently been running 15-20 sec/mile too fast for the intervals.

  • @Lynne - I think I've been running too hard also. I gave it 100% then some last Saturday for my 2 X 2mi. I seem to always be cramming for the test and go into it not 100% and choke. So, I'm in recovery mode also like you.

@ Annie - motivation kinda went down too with the cool mornings. But in Mn, I bet it is frigid! Last year someone in the NOV OS from Ma told us he ran with spike in the ice and snow. I can't imagine what this OS is like where you are!
  •  I'm surprised there is any room left at all in the boat because we are all in it.

Actually had a little pep in my step tonight doing run workout for the first time in about a week or so.  Nailed the workout and even had a little extra Z3 time to fill up my hour.

One of the nice things about being slow and just getting started is that I don't have as many minutes left in my hour after getting in my main set as you speed demons.

Hang in there everyone! Tests next week.

  •  Speaking of weather - this will make you northern folks smile.

Was 42 degrees on my run in Texas tonight.  Was wearing tights, three upper layers, stocking hat and gloves.  The Minnesota folks are probably still swimming when it's 42. I've become "cold soft" from my 12 years living in Texas.

  • @Chris...42 and 3 layers on the top?? lol!! We are still in shorts and capris and 1-2 layers on top. Gloves and hat optional! image

It is def getting cold all of a sudden this week, so yes, I need to unearth my hand and feet warming pads, oodles of clothes, wool socks and ice grippers! You know it is winter when your running gear is a full load of laundry in itself!

Most daily runs on the mill in the pain cave, but the weekends are for outside running...brisk and refreshing!! Lived in Phoenix for 11 yrs...I will take the cold over the heat any day! Weird I know, but I'm a true Minnesotan...I can't help it!! image
