What are strides???

Yeah, I know pretty dumb question, but what are they?

If there is a video link somewhere so I can watch someone do these, that would be great.

Thanks!

  • Simply put, they are 20-30 second accelerations typically done at end of run. Accelerate to roughly mile race pace over 5-10 sec then hold speed 5-10 sec and gradually decelerate over last 5-10 seconds. That's it!
  • not sure if there is a link, sorry
  • Yup, strides are just fast accelerations. Don't forget to focus on good running form (look "pretty"!) and quick turnover. Usually I take full recoveries between each one just so I can maintain speed and form for each of them.
  • Just remember...they aren't wind sprints...really focus on form....being smooth at speed.
  • Also for your 30 sec stride count with your left or right foot it's turn over with a goal being 45 the magic number . That will give you a 90 which is said to be the best turn over rate for running effectiveness.
  • ok, thanks everyone.

I was thinking strides were some kind of skipping or bounding. Some way in which you were physically altering your stride.

    Good to know.
