Planning Next season - Big Bike injection

Would you think this is too much for next season?? i am trying to not only boost FTP, but add in a huge injection of hills as i prep for IM Mont Tremblant

Thinking of NOT doing an MT training camp… instead….

Early may – wildflower HIM

Early June – Mooseman HIM

Mid June – do the 132 mile 6 gaps of Vermont - http://www.northeastcycling.com/six_gaps.html  (anyone want to plan a weekend around this?) could be done in one day, or broken into a 2 day affair which would make it more like 8 gaps as we would have to hit one 2x each day for the cut up...

July – Al Truscott Epic Aspen camp(if he does it again)

Assuming a good OS, (planning on a lot less skiing this year) how would this schedule rack up? anyone think this is too ambitious?

  • #Scott- Wildflower in May is a non issue for IMMT, and Mooseman is still 10 weeks out. So that is a non issue. The volume weeks that you are thinking about sound solid, although the 132 mile camp in Vermont is 8-9 weeks out from IMMT so although you will see a fitness spike you might not beable to maintain that bump. Al's camp, whenever he decides to do it, will probably be about 5 week out from IMMT so a great place to do an RR.

I am doing something similar, with huge bike weeks at 8 weeks out, 6 weeks out and then again at 3 weeks out from IM Canada. I am also doing Ironman Boise in early June (non-issue). Most of my spring will be run focus.

  • Lotsa biking, whether hills or 3-4 hour rides featuring 80% work, will surely add to your performance on race day. You have a good road bike for early season work?

Just make sure you (a) take a few weeks easy here and (b) devote Jan-Mar/Apr on OS focused FTP and VO2 work on the bike. When the weather perks up get 1-2 good rides a week near home and tire yourself out on them. Do WF for fun, then start the real IM training.

Yes, I will be back in Aspen for two sessions this summer:

July 6-23, which for me will be just before the start of my 12 week IM specific block, but would love to ride with others who are training for Mt Tremblant, Louisville, Canada, NY

Then the first 3 weeks of Sept, for me, a high altitiude boost for Kona, but also would work for a kick start to Florida and Arizona (or Cozumel) training for others.

  • It would be great if we could identify a week that a group wants to do this together to have some continuity in Aspen.

Yes, have a great roadie for the early stuff and that I plan to use for the six gaps trip
  • x2 what Al said. It's manageable if you rest!
