How to Have a Satisfying Life?

Columnist David Brooks of the NY Times, whose essays I don't normally enjoy, asked 70+ y/olds to describe thier lives and hoew they felt about them. The result strikes me as a good prescription for those who look forward to looking back on a satisfied life.

  • Very interesting, Al. Thanks!
  • some good life lessons in there

    thanks Al

  • Deep.  Especially appreciated this: "Measure people by their growth rate, not by their talents. The best essays were by people who made steady progress each decade."

Thanks for sharing...  Oh (not Old!) Wise One.

  • Great original article Al, and also insightful comments.

A similar sort of insight can be seen in Gordo's blog: http://coachgordo.posterous.com/how-to-keep-living

(I know he's sort of an EN competitor, so not touting him or his coaching service here ... sometimes his writing strikes a chord).

His stuff is often a bit esoteric, but the linked post fits well into this discussion.

Worth confronting as we all move up the curve.

Perhaps a poll of the ENers over 50/60/70 -- what should I do in my 40s/50s/60s to better enjoy tri and life in general in my 50s/60s/70s?
  • Thanks Al - Please keep sharing these types of articles!
  • Good read Al , I liked the part about divide your life into chapters. Upon looking at my own life seems like I do , do that and as I recover on my illness and growing older this may be a chapter that I will be hopefully writing about for a long time cause we are not getting any younger. Not to say I'm holding onto this illness forever mind you just that I have been sitting on top of the world for a long time and it just decided to roll over me this time. So move on along this chapter....
