Garmin 310xt...display NP?
Just wanted to make sure I was correct in that the Garmins aren't equipped to show normalized power on the fly, right? You have to upload to WKO+ to get that number, right?

But the short answer is No- the Garmin 310 does not show NP, TSS, or IF on the display. However, the new 910 will.
has the 910 started shipping? anybody got one yet????
The reason I was hearing that they were not shipping was a firmware problem.
Garmin already stated they will not be releasing the new power metrics to the 310.
I ordered the 910 from Road Runner Sports last week (btw....the 10% VIP discount applies, which saves $40) and they gave me an exact ship date of 12/27 on my invoice. I was surprised they gave me a specific date. I noticed on their website tonight that new orders are supposed to ship on 12/30. I'm HOPING this means that I got in on an earlier shipment and NOT that mine is now delayed.
I a, probably going to spring for an 800 for Christmas...need a dedicated bike computer.
Based on my experience as an embedded software developer and the complexity of metrics they already provide on the 310xt, there is absolutely no technical reason why they could not provide the additional power metrics on the 310xt. It's pure artificial product differentiation to drive sales of the 910 and incline people to upgrade.
As much as like Garmin's products, they've been pulling this type of sh!t for years. Personally, I'd be more pissed but I have an Edge 800 almost specifically for this reason. When Garmin pushes new updates, they always push it to their flagship devices (re: 800) first then let everyone else wait it out until they eventually get around to it. The longer the wait to better, gives people more time to just get pissed and buy the newer unit.
Now, rather than just complaining about it I could certainly let my wallet do the talking and take my dollars elsewhere, which I did indeed try to do. Unfortunately, I just found competitors like the first gen Joule to be lacking and eventually sold it and went back to Garmin.
Garmin 800 already has the power metrics.
I just got a 500 and am eagerly awaiting the update. Hope they don't squash it like they did with the 310.
