New Bike Help me Pick

Just got a pre-buy bike fit from Todd at ttbikefit.com.  The fitbike, shop, and his knowledge are amazing.

Based on stack 49-52, reach 38-40 , adjustable drop 8cm-13cm (currently 10.5 new 12) , must have Di2.  My choices are.

Felt Da2                   http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2012/TT-TRI/TT-TRI-Series/DA2.aspx

Trek  SC                  http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/triathlon/speed_concept_9_series/speed_concept_9_9/#

Blue Triad SL LE   http://www.rideblue.com/triadslle.php

I plan on keeping my zipp 1080/808 race wheels and the rotor3d 165mm crank with compact q-rings and quarq.

While I am busy pricing , adding up pro's and con's, trying to see each bike in person I would love to hear from anybody who owns these bikes, has knowledge of these bikes, or would just like to offer thier  opinion.

Thanks Tim ,

  • Tim,

I have a 2010 Blue Triad SL and am dying to upgrade to the new LE (stealth) that you listed. If I could somehow convince my wife that I need it!

I am not familiar personally with the Felt or the Trek but I absolutely love my Blue. I chose the Blue because it had the right stack/reach for me with minimal adjustments to the drop/stem etc. The Blue is more of the "short & tall" fit as opposed to the "long & low". For me, being a guy long in leg and relatively short torso there weren't as many choices. You don't see tons of the Blue's, which is one reason I like it so much.

My one criticism which I believe they fixed with the 2011 year model, is that the space between the rear stays is barely able to accomodate a 23mm wide tire/wheel. Not an issue anymore from my conversations with Chance.

If you get the Blue I want to see pictures!
  • I have a 2011 Trek SC 9.9 w/Di2. I love that damn bike. I more or less put it together myself (thankfully the Di2 wiring was already done - which would have been the absolute hardest part), so I have a pretty good working knowledge of it. The major issues that effected some 2010 and early-2011 models were fixed via warranty part swaps, so I would assume the 2012 model would be basically "quirk" free.
  • My wife has an older Blue Triad and loves it other than the PITA rear brake, but probably not an issue on the new version, especially with di2. That black version is absolutely sick looking and gets my vote. I have a Blue RC8 and a Blue AC1 road bike and love them both. It's kind of nice to have a bike that people never see. You can't really go wrong with any of those bikes though, all great bikes. I'm surprised the DA and the Triad both fit you, I always thouht the DA was long and low vs the Triad short and high with the SC somewhere in between, but what do I know.
  • @Dusty yeah the Blue LE is just sick looking and it comes with an hour in the wind tunnel down in your neck of the woods in NC. Kinda out of the way but I would probably find time to go do that just for fun if I went that way.

@Bob Hard to argue with the Trek and just love the front brakes , speed box, and bento box options. My only complaint is they look busy and they are the new Cervelo everybody has em. But there is a reason they all have em. Damn nice bike.

@John The way I understand it the 2010 DA was long and low more like a Cervelo. The New DA 51cm stack is 515 and reach 391 ,Small Blue SL 517/381, Small Trek SC 492/390

Todd has given a range of stack 49-52 and reach 38-40, but took it a step further by also figuring the drop with the standard bars, all the choices providing a drop of 8-13cm and the contact points of the fit would obviously be the same on each.
  • The front end is overly busy.  I'd agree with that.  That's why I ordered the TriRig SC clamps.

  • Todd will make sure whatever you get works...I'd go either trek or blue, both are looking pretty hot.
  • The Blue looks like ALOT of bang for the buck!! Di2 at that price point is awesome!!!
  • The Blue is my dream bike (got the world's shortest torso to long legs ratio), I have heard nothing but good things from folks who own them. But I'm jealous of whatever you pick!

  • I'm a proud member of the Blue mafia (Triad, T-14, RC-4, RC-7) and can't say enough good things about them. To me, most bikes are pretty similar once you get a good fit. Where Blue separates themselves is their customer service. It's the Ritz Carlton of the bike world.
  • I ruled out Trek.

I chose Blue. Waited too long and the Limited Edition was no longer available. I didnt feel strongly enough about the standard color Triad SL to justify the premium. Girlfriend is buying the Blue Triad SP custom build with a few upgrades from Todd. We will both be going to RI for our fits.

    I Ordered the 2012 Felt Da2 today.
