Swimming quesions

When the OS Swim hack calls for descends 1-3, 4-6, can someone give me an explanation?  Sorry, it's probably on the wiki but I'm tethered to my I-phone hotspot (very slow for downloading the swim e-book) and our shared drive is out at the new house.

Any explanation would be appreciated.  Thanks!!

  • Getting faster across each rep. So, first rep in each of those two sets (1-3 is one set, 4-6 is the second) is the slower than the second, and the second is slower than the third. So, get faster across each of the three reps, and then repeat for the second set.

...at least that is how I have read it previously.
  • Yes, descends typically mean "get faster". Sometimes if you have two descending sets like that, the intent is to do the 2nd set slightly faster than the first as well. Don't know if that's the intent in the OS swim hack.

So in that case, #1 would be a given speed, #2 faster, #3 faster. Then for #4 you'd drop back to a slower speed, but not as slow as #1, and repeat the process, ending with #6 being your fastest of all of them.
