Intense pain and swelling in left big toe??
Around labor day, while trail running, I turned my left ankle to the extent I was on crutches for a couple days afterwards. Within about 3-4 days, my left big toe swelled up turned red, and hurt like hell. Went to the Dr, who tested for gout. Blood work came back normal, but he prescribed a gout Nsaid just in case. That helped and the pain went away within a couple days. The pain and swelling has never 100% disapeared though. Yesterday I felt it returning and by 3am this morning was too painful to get any sleep. I personally still think it is gout even with the negative findings from the blood test. I'm 53 yo if it matters any. Have had achy knees the past couple days, wonder if its related?
My questions are along these lines.
1. Anybody know of anything else to consider other than gout?
2. Family history of gout. Father has had issues with it and is on a daily med for control of it.
3. If you've had it, how do you manage it? meds, diet, etc.
Want to get a resolution to this as it would totally wreck a race if it showed up unexpectedly. Had to stand down from training today, no way I could ride or run with this.
Thanks
