Calorie/Nutrient % during the OS

 Hey guys,

I'm starting to track my food using LoseIt.  I've never done it before.  I'm 5'8" 135# so I'm not looking to lose weight.  But I'm sure I can clean up my diet.  I'm curious what % of carbs/fats/proteins you guys would recommend during the OS given a goal of maintaining weight and leaning up.

Thanks!

  • M, you are one of the few folks who fits inside the width parameters of the profile picture!!! I think that it's not so much % as it is what you eat. If you can go lean meats and fruits and veggies as your first choice all week, you are off to a great start. Save the carbs for just before/during/after your workouts and you'll be much better off!!!
  • For the last 5-weeks using Lose It like a religion, I am 28% fat (8% sat fat), 58% Carb, 14% Prot. Weight is down over 12-pounds over 5-months, corresponding BF improvement on Tanita body scale.
  • I'm 5'5", 140lb. I hit 135 in the OS last year. My macronutrient breakdown % over the past year has been (carbs/fat/protein/fiber): 59/14.5/21/5.5 by weight, and 52/29/19 by calories. In the OS timeframe it was virtually identical, 1% more carbs, 1% less fat.

This data is retrospective based on tracking the food in TrainingPeaks. I didn't manage the balance at the time -- the only thing I "counted" was calories...aiming for about a neutral balance each week.

Overall I'm sure I could improve by doing less carbs, But I'll bet that most of the carbs are fruit, not thinkgs like refined grains.
