Some v02 training questions...
Ok, so starting v02 on Tuesday. Thanks for all the info posted so far. Super helpful! I have a couple additional questions, which might be hair splitting but here they are anyway. First, does position matter? I do all my FTP stuff in my bars. What about v02, as the intervals are pretty short and we'd never really be biking at that intensity in our bars? I could see that it would be easier to generate the wattage without being aero, but is there some muscular/specificity benefit to be gained from putting out that load in a race specific position? What do most people do?
Second, cadence. I usually spin 80-85 for my FTP intervals. Does it matter the same way for v02? Or just do whatever it takes to get the watts out?
TIA!! -- Jenn

Just my 2 cents ....
I stayed in the bars for 'on' and sat up for 'off'. Cranked up my cadence pretty high for the 'on' intervals. Over 100 for sure.
@Jenn:
I dont think it ultimately matters too much, but I'd stay in the bars if you can. Although you won't be hitting that effort in your racing, it will keep your power effort consistent with your FTP measurement, and it's good practice.
I do all V02 work sitting up and everything else in the bars...........
I do all my work in aerobars if at all possible. VO2, FTP, 85%, all of it. I figure I am going to race in bars so I might as well develop my musculature and practice generating power in that position. I am not a roadie! Sometimes I sit up on a steep hill or right at end of a long VO2 interval when I get hypoxic and see spots but otherwise, keep down! Just my way but to each their own.
Thanks guys. Appreciate the input!
