  • @ Jenn sorry to hear about your ribs - way to tough it out!!

that extra glass of wine last nite felt good then but not so much this a.m. - waited till noon to jump on the bike - legs were trashed but managed to tough it out

    2x14 Z4 + 4x1.5 Z5 + 15' brick run

  • Ummmm guys........unless somebody has some bruised or broken ribs, looks like we are not going to have any excuses other than buckling down and "Getting it Done" next week for the Infamous week 10.

    Good luck all!

Jenn, thanks for raising the bar for us!

Well I got on my trainer this morning and despite my fractured rib, was able to gut out Thursday's v02 workout. Did another set of 60/60, in aero bars this time, followed by 15' @ z3. Hit all targets but it was work! If I'm not too sore, I will do today's (Saturday) workout tomorrow. While I can suck it up on the bike, I'm fairly certain this injury is too fresh to run. Might as well do the extra bike work if I can. That is where I could use the most improvement anyway.

Am I officially one of those crazy people for getting back and riding so soon?

Jenn, I have never broken a bone in my body (my nose several times, but that is cartlidge) however, I would think the bike might actually help you recover faster than otherwise doing nothing while also helping you maintain that heart and lung fitness level.  If you can get through it, my guess is you're doing the right thing.  Get well soon and keep pushing us!

  • Hey folks. I wonder if I am doing the ON intervals wrong. If it says 10min, does the 10min include the rest time? I did 1 min intervals with 1 min off. This was 5 min of pain and 5 min of rest. Should I have doubled it?
  • Today I did my work outside on the MTB bike. It was hard slogging through the mud, but it was nice to be outside. Here in Chicagoland it has been a "mild" day.
  •  Holy crap!   Shaughn musta been pushinf me from afar.

Did the bike workout outside this morning.  Jumped in with a local roadie group that is fast.  Spent at least 35' at over FT, non-stop.  Completely shelled myself.  Awesome over 2 hour ride!

@Jon - I have been using HR along with my data so I can ride my MTB and know what my FT HR is.  Hope to ride on the local mountain next week.  Nice to mix things up, right?  :-)

My first FT test for OS is this Monday.  Never done one on a trainer before.  This should be interesting.

  • @Jon ; - 10' ON means 10 minutes of pain and 10 of rest.............

  •  @Jon - x2 on Shaughn.  Sorry.  Enjoy next week!

@Jenn - Hope you're better soon.  Sucks when you hurt yourself doing something non-training.

I was very happy I backed down to 2' intervals for today's workout.  Also held back a little on the FTP work so I could manage the V02.

    Today's stats...

      Watts % FTP
    1st FTP 194 96%
    2nd FTP 194 96%
    1st Interval 243 120%
    1st Recovery 142 70%
    2nd Interval 245 121%
    2nd Recovery 142 70%
    3rd Interval 245 121%
    3rd Recovery 143 71%
    4th Interval 246 122%
    4th Recovery 133 66%
    Total Workout IF 0.907

  • Happy New Years Eve Mr. Stark!

Hope the boys are well and beneficiaries of all the testostorone floating around the Stark camp.

  • @ Jenn - you are a friggin tough!

No mojo today. Wanted to run 14 miles this morning but crapped out at 11.4 ...just bonked. I didn't start until 10am (mid-70s) and only had a cliff bar all morning so I think I just didn't eat enough to get going. Rested, ate, did honey-do's, out to dinner with the fam, then on the bike for Spinervals Recovery & Technique followed by 3.05 mile make-up/brick run. I will attempt the hard bike ride tomorrow morning. Back to Dick Clark now.
  •  @ shaughn and Paul, thanks guys image really, it's uncomfortable but feels better than the frustration of doing nothing!

I did the Saturday bike this morning. Aimed for 95% for the 2 x 18' to be safe, and then 60"/60" for the 8' on. Don't know if it was the sore rib, the lack of rest day, or just the ugliness of FTP followed by V02, but this was quite possibly one of the nastiest wko's to date! Nothing like a serving of pain to ring in 2012

  • Did the Saturday bike ride this morning also. What a way to start the New Year. I made the 1st 18 mins @ Z4 without any problem, but 12.5 minutes into the second my legs just gave out. So I took a break, then came back for another 6 mins of Z4. Break, then 8x1 min @ Z5. Except for the 1st one when my legs were yelling WTF, these seemed a little psychologically easier than the endless Z4 stuff. Rich must have come up with this workout!
  • @Paul - No doubt, these are the hardest workouts of the OS. But I agree that psychologically it's much better to have the FTP before the VO2, regardless of wht the physiology is. :-)
