How much protein, if any, for Infinit run mix?

Question for the Infinit users here in the Haus ---

Other than changing flavors, how do you change your Infinit formula for use on the run?

  • No Protein?
  • Very little Protein?
  • More/Less Amino Acids?
  • etc, etc, etc.....

Thanks.

Joe

  • No protein (vs. 4 g in bike formula) but I add caffeine.  Also, slightly reduced calories in run formula (240 vs 280).  Same level of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium as bike formula.   Same flavor and flavor strength as bike formula.

  • What Bruce said, most people can handle the protein on the run, also I believe it will foam like crazy with protien in there and the shaking from the run.

I don't use it for the run as I prefer to switch it up.

  • This really is a very personal decision and changes over time. For the longest, I had a few grams of protein in my run mix. Then, when I was training for a marathon in 2010, my stomach decided it didn't want protein. Now, my run mix doesn't have protein.
  • Many people, including me, report gas/bloating when protein is added to a sportsdrink. These days, all I want/need in my sports nutrition is:

    1. Fluid
    2. Sodium
    3. Calories, in the form of carbohydrates
    4. For longer stuff, some flavor of caffiene -- could be in the sportsdrink, a caffeine tab, coke at the gas station, etc.

  • Thanks everyone. I have prepped my formulas for today's INFINIT sale. No change to my bike formula, and run formula is protein-free with just a bit of caffeine.
  • FWIW, I do use some protein in my bike formula, but none in the run. I can handle the protein in all my training sessions on the bike, but sometimes race day is a bit finicky, so it's a very low amount.
  • A little late on this, but I also don't do protein for the run formula. I add some caffeine also have a different flavor than the bike as want a change after drinking that flavor for hours.
  • I took the protein out of my mix for this season and added some caffeine. I get some bloating late on the bike and the need for a "pit stop" during the run. I took advantage of the sale and got some new mixes.
