iPhone 4 Apps?

I'm getting an iPhone 4S and wondering what apps I should get for running, biking, calorie/activity tracking that the team likes?

  • I use a big screen print that says "train consistently.". Works better than anything for sale in the app store!

Seriously, lose it is good. But there's a lot of noise out there as well.

  •  I really like the following and use them consistently:

    1. "My Fitness Pal" for tracking calories and nutrition - FREE
    2. "Triessential" daily motivation and tips - Don't remember if this had a cost.  Worth a small fee to me.
    3. "Cyclemeter" cycling app that is pretty slick - I like because I can have it set to send my wife an email every X miles when I am on a ride so she knows where I am and that I'm okay. - $4.99 I think
    4. "TriCalc" - App for estimating different finish times and splits.  I really like this app for quickly estimating performance at variety of race distances.  All the stuff can be done in Excel but it is nice to have a handy app to do this.  Don't remember the cost.
    5. "Withings" - App that links me to the data from my Withings wifi scale.  (yes I am a geek...)
    6. "Tri Checklist" - Cool app for creating custom checklists for races.  I like it because I always have my phone and it allows me to have my OCD tendencies in the palm of my hand.  Also I can update or add to the list anytime
    7. "Swim-Planner" - App for creating different swim workouts, sometimes I just need a change of pace in the pool...
    8. "Runkeeper" I mainly use during training runs when I want music, I like the fact that it plays my mileage splits over my headphones.  Nice to have but not a must have.
    9. "Days Until" - App that is a countdown app for future dates/events.  I use it to keep my head in the game when it comes to training focus, especially in the outseason.  Knowing that there is a half iron race in May isn't nearly as motivational to me as seeing "123 Days."  Gotta make every day count!

I am sure there are a ton more, be interesting to see what others are using.

  • @Dusty- Cyclemetersounds perfect for worrying wives & parents! (I have both) I'll check them all out when I get the phone today! Thanks!
  • I use RunCalc and the FeXY calculator for VDOT calculations. Plus TrainingPeaks mobile.
  •  For the same purpose, I use Instamapper GPS Tracker. It's simple, secure, and free. It's cool cuz my wife and kids can pull up the website and see live tracking on a Google map, so they know exactly where I am. If my "dot" doesn't move for a while, my wife knows something is up. And the best part, my kids are usually outside waiting when they see I'm coming home!

    I also love Lose It!
