Bike Testing Heart Rate

Yesterday testing was done on the bike. It was as close to a perfect test as I could get. Was broken down in 3 10 min blocks with the last block in 2 5 min blocks.

Here is how it went by the numbers!

         Avg HR             Max HR

1)     150                    156

2)     155                    158

3)     154                     157

4a)   157                     160

4b)    160                    164

Avg overall 155         Max 164

How has everyone feel after there first test of OS

  • Happy with my bike test today - given that I switched out the road bike for the new tri (first ever ride), I think my results were good, What do you think?

40min broken down into 10min blocks:

    1. zone 4.3
    2. zone 5.0
    3. zone 6.0
    4. zone 6.0

Average heart rate 162, maximum 169

No real significant bump in HR to speak of, but given I was able to maintain the higher zones without having to stop and even bumped into bigger gear for last 10min block, I definitely noted an improvement in my fitness image

    How did your tests go?
  • Here is my Bike TT test broken down in 10 min blocks for discussion

    W/U X 10 min shifter/gears(cogs) moving smooth

Time         Avg/Km Avg Speed Max Speed Avg HR Max HR Avg Cadence Overall

    1) W/U           2:15      29.7                               136          143         95

    2) 10 min      1:51       32.3            33.9          149/Z4.0  156        93

    3) 10 min      1:42        35.2          39               151/Z4.1  156       93

    4) 10 min      1:51       32.2            37             155/Z5.0   160        90

    5) 10 min        1:39      36.2           40             161/Z6 + 165/Through my chest cavity Zone   90

    6) Overall Travelled 22.67 km in the 40 min. Avg speed 33.50 km Avg cadence 90. Bang on marks for me. It took till the 21 min mark for my HR and RR to settle in. That allowed my last 10 min block to increase the load crazy effort!!

Overall a very demanding test thanks to the Pilons and Brenda for the motivation. To put this in perspective there is a big bump in my zones. My NEW Zone 4 is my old Zone 5 which equals just more threshold trg that I just came out of. OMG 6 weeks of hell has come again

  • Wow Steve, great test!! Brent's in a similar situation...his new zone 4 was his zone 6! And his new zone 3 was his old zone 4/5 - CRAZY new numbers! We're wondering if perhaps the new bike position, combined with the head cold has scewed his results somewhat? What do you think?

  • Simply put new bike, new bike positioning for now until you dial it in. Second test a little smarter on the way to get through 40 Min TT. SECOND SUCCESS IS GETTING THROUGH 40 MIN WITHOUT YOUR LEGS BLOWING, OVERALL GOOD, Wait till that bike postion gets dialed in over time.(sorry for typos). Fitness is showingo hold on and power through. He will have to dig deep to meet the demands about to be put on him . Remember"I just want to see 1 second ah success"
  • Natalie, just tell Brent to give it a try in his training. He may be able to hit the zones, as they are going to be short and sweet with the VO2 max stuff. Saturdays ride involves Zone 4 but after Z5 effort, so he might find it doable. If not, he can always adjust and ride by PE while keeping track of his HR.
  • He managed to hit his zones today, but it concerns me how high they are. He posted on the micro thread to get the coaches view...will keep you posted.

    Nat
  • With new HR zones first 2 rides there is a lot of number chasing unable to hit the new Z5 bike but there are whispers of hope soon. The chase is on the game is afoot!

  • Hey Guys,

I haven't written anything about my bike test yet, so here goes.

My average HR for the 40 mins was 165, with HR peaking at 172. In comparison to Bike Test # 1, there was a significant drop, from an average of 177 on January 6 to 165 on February 20. I'm feeling good about the result, because in my view it means the fitness is starting to show. I worry a little bit that they are too low now and I'm not going to get the same gains out of my work, anyone have insights in that?

I had been worried about my HR over the past few weeks, because I was pushing at a Z4 effort, and only getting Z3 heart rate numbers, I guess this test kind of explains it.

I had a solid workout on Saturday, working with the new zones, although in some ways, like I said above, I sometimes worry that they aren't high enough anymore, but again, based on PE, it feels right.

Hope you guys had a good training week last week, happy Vo2 week one!

    Nicole.
