Jellyfish

I am not thrilled about the things I've heard about jellyfish o' plenty at IMFL so started doing some research and came across this:

I've never been stung by a jellyfish and would prefer to keep it that way so I'll be stocking up!  LOL

  • Dang jellyfish.... I haven't given this much thought at all, but perhaps I should? I guess the blissful ignorance will have to end at some point image
  • Not worried about jellyfish unless I accidently such one into my mouth...remember we will be wearing a wetsuit...

I am worried about sharks...just sayin...
  • I'm with Nate, the sharks are what worry me!
  • Kim - this is why you don't do research.

  • I think this would be great to have on my feet and face and neck.. it would suck to have a jellyfish derail me for the race... thanks for the advice..
  • You might see them but I have yet to find any case of anyone who has actually been stung by one in 8+ years of reading RRs for this racing and having raced it 3x. I am sure now that I said this Sarah will likely be attacked by a jelly fish.

  • Dan- I'll follow you then. If they are after you, they'll leave me alone. image BTW, didn't see one one either of my swims last weekend. Let's hope they stay away!
  • I raced the Chesapeakeman Aquavelo last September on the Eastern shore of MD. There were jellyfish aplenty and I got stung on the back of my hand and the top of my foot/ankle. (As an aside, as I was swimming I noticed that I was kicking what I thought was some vegetation on the bottom that would get wrapped around my ankle - turned out those were JF tentacles - yuk). I would categorize it as a strong annoyance, not serious pain. It was gone partway through the bike. That said, I did pick up a bottle of SwimSafe lotion earlier this year with the intention of testing it this summer on the Jersey shore but there turned out to be no jellyfish this year. I think I heard that jellyfish stings don't affect the palms of your hands or bottoms of your feet b/c the skin is too thick, so I'll be applying the lotion to my other exposed areas if we see jellyfish in the days before the race.
  • @Doug- I have that stuff too but didn't get to try it out. Will use on race day just in case!
  • Thanks for jinxing me Dan. Attacked By a Jellyfish will make a great title for my race report if I write one.
  • LOL. What makes Sarah the idea target for a jellyfish attack?
  • Whoops, that was ideal target.

She seems like a likely target plus, I actually know her so she is easy to pick on.
