New OutSeason Recovery Week Protocol (2012)

Been writing away for you folks, and this time around I have created a Recovery Week protocol. The past four years of OS training has shown that not everyone can get through the full 20weeks, as written, without a hiccup. Could be travel. Could be illness. Could be mental breakdown. Could be you didn't take enough time off after your last year.

Whatever the cause, being pro-active about managing your recovery and keeping your fitness train "on track" with no unscheduled stops should be you top priority. In order to make this happen, you'll need specific guidance on when and how to rest. Essentially, this guide is meant to give you guidance on how to take a "down" week after the 8-week FTP section (wks 1-8) or after the VO2 section (wks 9-14).

This has been filed under the OS section of the wiki, but you can review it directly here

If you are looking for how to transition out of the OS, that information is here and here.

If you are looking for how to modify your OS, that information is here

Looking forward to your feedback!

  • Good stuff P. Thx. I've been adjusting some weeks on the fly based on my own subjective/objective measures of recovery. Agree this is very helpful esp. for those newer to EN.

  • got it. tempting to go aheadand work it in to one's schedule.

let me ask this...is Plan A to stick with the OS schedule without this recovery week amendment? hoping to respect the down days this year.
  • Solid structure still. Will use and give feedback when and if I need to cash in on that card!
  • Looks solid! I think it's especially valuable to see just how little one should actually do on a rest week.

  • Looks great! This makes me feel retroactively better about being on travel for the past week and not really having any opportunities for structured training. Indeed, I do feel rested up and ready to hammer the OS again. image
  • This is a great resource P. Thanks for putting it out there ... will be putting it in place in about 8 weeks, I bet.
