P90X and the OS
I've heard a lot of good stuff about P90X, including an Army Ranger cousin of mine saying that it was legit. If it's going to make someone like him really take notice then I figure there has to be something going on.
I did some searching in the 3.0 forums and saw that a few people in da haus were using, and I know all that about not weight lifting, but am curious if anyone has made it through the 90 days during the OS. Did you have to modify it to be able to reach the intensity required for the triathlon training? Did you see any benifit from it?
Thanks!

I recently received the program as a gift, and have been struggling with the same question. I haven't started it yet, because I'm pretty sure it's too much work to add to the OS. But I will say that the X-Stretch disc is good, and I'll probably experiment with the core synergistics disc and/or the plyo disc as one or two of my core workouts during the week.
love to hear thoughts/experiences of others.

Jeff,
We bought P90X just before I had foot surgery 2+ years ago. I loved it and found it invaluable when I could not run or jump. The yoga was HARD! But once I was into the season or OS, I had to drop all of it except ab work. It is a very tough program. This year I purchased "GET INSANITY" from the same company. I like it even more because it is all core work with cardio and your own body weight. I did that from the end of race season until the strat of OS, with a month long break for vacation. It is a great alternative to triathlon training. I want to try and keep up more core work this year, so P90X AB Rippper and GET INSANITY will be it for me. But I seriously modify.
I DO NOT recomend that you try to complete the P90X and OS at the same time.
If you do the plyo, all I can say is MODIFY! I couldn't squat for 2 days after my first time and walking up steps was torture. I love plyo, I think it helps running, but the programs are hard core.
Amen to that! My wife and I went through it and lasted about 2 months. It will kick your butt. And there is no way you can do this and the OS and live, you will just get hurt. I am actually doing one round of their pushups/pullup routine and the ab ripper on Mondays (it may not last though). But if you have say 6 weeks or 2 months that you want to stay in shape and get fit, this will help a lot.
If you own it though, try doing their ab ripper workout a few times a week. It will help a lot. Just don't try to do 25 of each like they do.
Right now, I'm in the 3rd week of the 100 pushup challenge, and in the 1st week of the 200 situp challenge. After both of those are over, I'll be doing p90x chest/back, shoulders/arms and abs/core work only. But I'll try some of the other occassionally to get in some other cross-training if I have the time.
I agree with what the others said though, do NOT attempt both OS and p90x at the same time...too much fatigue.
@Michelle, how do you like the "GET INSANITY"? I looked it up, but haven't done a whole lot of research on it. I love the concept of body weight workouts, as they're completely functional and not 'get pretty' stuff you find a lot of people doing.
Last time during the OS I was working out pretty steadily 2 - 3 days a week to keep up some upper body strength. I lost a LOT in the build up for IM and I'd like to get that back while working on various inbalances and weaknesses (weak hips/glutes and overly tight hammies). Is this something that would accomplish those goals?
A friend has loaned me a copy to try so there's nothing invested at this point. Just looking for something to suppliment the OS in the manner above.
@Jeff- Upper body work you'd be fine. Doesn't sound like you'll be doing all of the cardio and Plyo. I've never done the leg routines as OS was hard enough.
@Scott- I have REALLY enjoyed GET INSANITY! You get a bunch of DVD's with different workouts. I was following their planned schedule. BUT for me I didn't feel like I got enough "sweat time". It was hard then done in about 30 minutes with WU and CD. So I would add a bike or run BEFORE. Legs had it rough, but I needed more cardio. Once I stepped up to the longer workouts, some days I didn't need any more. It is A LOT of plank work and I know it gave me a strong core, in some ways better than P90X.
Again- this was during my break from triathlon from Sept--->Jan. So it was a mental break as well, and that could explain why I love it. But the ab work- WAY HARDER than P90X.
Suffer and enjoy at your own risk.

Woo-hoo! Just did Chest & Back, and Ab Ripper X. Holy cow do I feel weak! Lots of room for improvement here!

HA! I was in my garage at 5AM doing this today as well. Me on the pull-up bar: must....bring....chair....over....
I'm pretty sure my triceps are never going to be the same after Tuesday's chest/arms.
hahahahahaa! ah...P90. Dave and I got suckered into this earlier in the fall when his office kicked off their fitness routine. As the "two athletes" they thought we'd be bored but I actually think the computer geeks outlasted us. It kicked our ass big time.
On a personal note, pretty sure I tore my bicep on the pull up routine...
