Bike fit

Please take a pic at these videos.  One from front, left side, right side, and back.  I am getting right piriformis pain often.  Just had another fitting and he moved the seat forward again.  My bars were at 90 mm and they are 90 100 mm with a -8.  I am still in the learning process.  I am still holding and gaining watts but something seems wrong.

Please let me know your thoughts everyone.  Would like to get dialed in.  First race is May 5th and I will be headed to St. George.  So from the paincave of Iowa to the mountains of Utah

As always I appreciate it: Thanks

  • I think your seat is too low as I see a lot of bend in your knee. Maybe it's the angles but your seat still looks really far back. Is that the Cervelo seat post you can flip?

  • Bob-
    Yes it can be flipped.
  • Carl,
    Dude, Eat something!!!
I agree with Bob...is your bike set "level" in the trainer? you look like you are riding "up hill" when you are on the bike???
Your shoulders look relaxed, but your hip angles look jacked up...need them to roll forward a little??? (seat all the way forward on the rails and maybe up 1-2 cm?)
What angle is your seat in relation to your head stem? straight on or at a slight angle away?
Last thought is your accident...could just be something that some more PT will help (strengthen your hip with walking lunges and monster walks (side to side) with a band)
Give me a shout next week and I would be happy to chat with you about it.
  • Ebe-
I can't eat anymore man. I'm shoveling it in and holding at 160. I believe the seat is 80 mm in front of the bb. I'm headed back in this week and hoping we can dial it in. I'm starting to really wonder about the fit. I know it's some trial and error but....I will give you a shout next week.

    Bob-

    Yes it can be flipped.

Will flipping it move you forward and into a better angle?

  • @ Bob going to give it a try. Refit this week then will repost.
  • I'm a little late to the party here, but I agree with the other folks. Your seat looks like it could be a decent amount higher (maybe a couple centimeters) and moved forward. Your pelvis could also be rotated forward a bit. What kind of saddle are you riding, an Adamo or Cobb may allow for a little more pelvis rotation forward. If you do this and flexibility allows it, then the arm pads could come down a bit (and might need to go forward a bit if you are rotating your body forward). Your extensions aren't quite praying mantis style, but your hands do seem a fair bit higher than your elbows, is there a reason for this? Final thing was that you mentioned some Piriformis issues on your right side. You might try watching your "front view" video in slow motion and see if your knees are moving in and out throughout the cycle. I have found that if I don't have my left cleat angled in a little bit more than my right one that I get knee and hip issues. It's crazy what just a few degrees of rotation on your cleat will do. I think every person's leg geometry is unique (and mine are different than each other) so you may want to experiment with this a bit. FWIW, I also have my cleats slammed all the way back on my shoes.
  • John-
I am rising a Cobb saddle. Hadn't noticed the hand to elbow issue but for sure see it. I'm going back Wed for my refit and hoping we get dialed in. During the physical portion of the fit when I was doing I e legged squats by quad and knee would go in therefore he told me he was not going to correct that when I pedaled cause it was natural. Now you have me thinking!!!! Yes agree on the seat needing to be higher. He told me it was 80 mm in front of the bottom bracket and the aero's are at 100 mm and -8. If I'm not satisfied this next go around seriously thinking about dropping the cash for Todd Kenyon to take a peek at the video's and see what he thinks.
  • Headed to Kyles for a tweak on the fit tomorrow. Will repost the changes.
  • Do you have a Retul fitter in your area? My husband and I both had a Retul fitting and it made a huge difference. Cost a bit, but definitely worth it!

  • Carol-I WISH!!

Well he is the low down. Moved the seat up 1.1 inches!!!! Stem was returned to 90 mm from 100 mm with -8. Front of seat was dropped and the cleats were moved backward. We will see how this feels. Will try and repost in the next day or so. If this doesn't work Im sending video's to Kenyon.
