Swimming testimonial
Not sure where swimming belongs in the forums as I couldn't find it so I'm posting here. I just wanted to share my experience with a long swim layoff. I swam for the first time since IMC on Aug 28th on Jan 10th, an ez 2K. Then I went to Jamaica and swam an ez 2K in an outdoor pool for 5 straight days to jump start my swimming and then again today as I plan to swim once a week for the rest of OS. I swam mostly just ez 500's on 10-15" rest but today I swam 5 x 100 on 2' to see where I stood after the layoff. I swam 1:21-1:25 for the intervals, last one fastest. This is only about 5-7 seconds/100 off what I swam last year when in swimming shape. Obviously I don't have the endurance to swim long sets at this pace but I'm just getting started.
While acknowledging my endurance is lacking, I'm very pleased at the speed and ease with which I've regained my feel for the water. I'm quite pleased to have had almost 5 months swim free and be back so quickly. There might be something to this EN stuff after all.... Full disclosure: Like Al, I believe in the DeSoto Speedtube and am using it as my two A races are both wetsuited swims. However, my interval times are apples to apples as I was using the times from last year while wearing Speedtube.
My shoulders were a bit sore from too many pushups Tuesday and I've been a bit fatigued this week so I didn't feel like doing a 1K TT so I can't compare these times but maybe I'll do a 1K TT next week and post the results for Rich.
