Why VO2 work on Saturdays during last 6 weeks of OS?

I just noticed that for the rest of the OS we have VO2 work in our Saturday bike session.  I am surprised to see this since we'll be in a FTP training block, and there wasn't VO2 work in the first 8 weeks of FTP.

What's the rationale for the VO2 in weeks 15-20 of the OS?

In the second FTP block of the  OS (internediate) we have VO2 work in our Saturday bike session.  I am surprised to see this since this is an FTP training block, and there wasn't VO2 work in the first 8 weeks of FTP.

  • I understood from the wiki block 3 is to keep working on VO2 while adding FTP work, sounded logical to me.

(and as I missed some of VO2 work in Block 2 i am glad I can catch it up.)

Why Saturday ?.. do not know but I like the idea having more time to spend on longer Z3 intervals

  • Brett,

We have Vo2 and FTP scheduled in the same block because, frankly, our experience has shown that it works (ie, lifts FTP) and it's doable. I experimented with this stuff on myself last year and I'm sure Patrick has done the same.

  • @R, I usually do most of Tue/Thur rides on drainer and Sat outside in unusually warm SC. Can I move the VO2 to Thurs and Thurs to Sat?
  • Unusually warm? Geo, this is typical South Carolina weather! Right Brenda???

  • balanced training works all of the critical areas of fitness (VO, FTP, ABP) We get unbalanced for a while to really boost your levels, and then return to balanced training to lead into race prep. If you start ignoring your VO2 training, it will decline, losing some of the gains from the focus phase.
