Love the Debate Going on Over on ST RE: 2 X 20' FTP & Testing

Comments

  • Thanks for the props and for representing! I have a couple more thoughts I'll put up shortly.

  • it is  good advice, but how will they know how awesome i am?   i like the 60' test, as it lets me "give him the heat and announce my presence with authority"

Feel free to add your thoughts and experiences, as I bet no squad on the planet has more experience than EN with the concept of interval training, 2 x 20' and all the various variations we use here!

  • Since I only read ST when someone here makes a link to a thread----I'm so glad that EN doesn't have the mentality of ST. I sense a bunch of people who Karma is going to kick square in the NUTS!!!!
  • I'm with Keith...
oh, yah and just for the record I did like 6x20' this morning at 103% and feel awesome...Probably do another 3x20' tonight just for fun.....Give me a break... Who are these people?.
  • I've been following this thread since the start. Can't say I've picked up much knowledge from it. It does seem like more of a, excuse me ladies, cock waving exhibition. And for those who claim they consistently are hitting 2x20' @ 1.05 god bless. I'm sure I could provided it was my only workout of the day.
  • It reminds me of one those hilarious text-to-speech videos people are always posting on Facebook. It would definitely be called "Sh*t SW Members Say".
  • You all know enough about power training and racing to know what is possible and what's not. You know when to call bullshit on someone describing a 4hr ride at 91% and they felt awesome, or put up 325 TSS in a 5:20 bike split and had a good run, or consistently pops out 20' intervals at 105%+ without describing them as very challenging. It's a sure sign that, at a minimum, they haven't accurately determined their FTP.

  • I just went over to ST and read the thread. That's about 5 minutes I won't get back......
  • This is the great problem with ST. There really is some knowledge out there, and there really are some diverse reasonable opinions that are worth discussing... but it either goes snarky, HTFU, or personal just WAAAY too often.

A lot of this argument over exact percentages would go away if (a) people were talking about the same, consistent test; and (b) they listened to Rich about remembering the "what works for you" factor.

If one method of test gives an answer 5% higher than another, then that starts to become significant in whether you can do 20 min at 105%.... Good grief. Accuracy and precision. They teach that in high school physics, boys and girls.
  • Every time I go over there, I mentally thank R&P for establishing a positive, supportive environment here. Why anyone would want to subject themselves to interacting like that every day is beyond me. Maybe when I was 25, but not now. Some of you were around when we had a bit of that here. If you weren't, let's just say that people have been asked to leave the team, and we've been the better for it.

For the record, if R&P decide we need to do a 60' TT for FT test, I'm quitting! 2x20' is hard enough!
  • Wow! Thank goodness I discovered EN before knowing anything about ST!!!! I'm exhausted 9and confused) just reading all of the posts. I come to EN, read the posts and all the info in one place and leave knowing MORE and being pumped up. Thanks RnP!
  • I get frustrated just reading the few posts that get quoted on our forums. I don't get why any of us waste our time and cause ourselves stress by reading those posts. Life is too short to get that worked up over something so unimportant.
  • Thank god I wasn't drinking anything while reading this. When I saw Dick Nixon waving at the crowd, I would have blown it all over my screen. Lol.
  • @Steve...Totally agree! I was curious...went to the ST forum, cruised through and left knowing I did not miss "anything". Everything we all need is right here...that is why we joined EN! Plus, just reading all of that craziness just reaffirms I made the right decision for ME. That is all that really matters...
  • There's a lot of outstanding info that can be found on ST. There's also a lot of shitheads that post there. I generally enjoy the place.
  • I'm with Bob. ST can be very good. And sometimes people need a kick in the ass. Sorry, but the world isn't all rose petals and fairies people.
    1. Use your real name.
    2. Never say anything, or in a tone, that you wouldn't use in face to face conversation among strangers at a cocktail party.

I don't understand why a grown, mature adult would every represent themselves as many in the internet world seem to enjoy doing, ie, being a dickhead because they can and can get away with it. It serves no purpose and I think it's at it's base a reflection of character.

Anyway...we don't need a thread about the flaws of other forums. We have a good thing here, done. Move along, nothing to see.

  • Man, I'd really like to cock-punch Paulo and "The Authority", though...just my final thought on the subject.  Really turns me off to even visting their site anymore.  My I.E. autolaunches the EN Dashboard every morning, and that's the way I likes it!

  • My favorite line out of the whole discussion was:

u are forgetting the importance of bragging rights on ST...

Not sure I get much out of ST.... Too much BS and I can't ferret through the bad stuff to get the couple of nuggets. Even in this discussion, there were couple of gems--such as FTP on hills vs flats.

Too many time I leave the site feeling like was back in high school--to many fricken cliques...

I agree with you, Rich.  I pretty much don't say anything on there I wouldn't say to someone's face.  I'm sure I made my share of sarcastic comments over the years but nothing outlandish and completely unwarranted.  I'm sarcastic by nature so I can't help being sarcastic at times but I'm never mean about it.

I don't use my real name over there just because of what I do for a living but by the same token, many folks over there know what I do for a living and I try to conduct myself with some decorum as it could be a reflection on my employer if I went off spewing a bunch of bullshit vitriol on everyone.  Not my style anyway.

  • I changed my name to my real name on ST about a year ago so I would think twice before posting some things.  Not that I was talking crazy but because I just wanted to make sure a little more self-control measures were in place.

But I've found better advice and interaction on EN in the past 1+ years of being a member here.

My intention for starting this thread on EN was to basically point out how good we have it here.  That thread I referenced has SO much bad information in it on a VERY simple topic.  And that's par for the course over there.

  • ST = YMMV. Period. I don't go there unless Rich makes me because his head's about to explode. image
