Setting up Joule with Quarq

Well it is finally here - I recieved my new PM and had the LBS put it on yesterday. Set it up, ( at least I thought I did ); it paired with the Quarq - but I can't get the timer to start when I hit the interval button?? It reads watts, cadence and HR, but the timer stays @ 00:00:00???? Did I miss something?

HELP!!

  • Speed/cadence sensor and a magnet on the rearwheel? That is what I missed when I first set mine up.
  • Hmm?? Did not see that in the package?? I thought the cadence came from the cranks??

  • Speed reading starts the timer unless you change it to HR in the Joule settings. You need a speed sensor and a magnet setup as described above.
  •  @ Steve - Does that come with the standard Joule 2.0? Or is it a separately purchased item?

  • I think it's separate.

It's not the magnet.  He wouldn't get power or cadence numbers if it was a magnet issue.

  • I just went through the configuration with Poweragent, it looks like it can be set up to record based on speed or HR. I switched to HR - hopefully this clears it up.

I did yesterday's workout using my Timex and monitoring watts on the Joule.

You are correct .  The Quarq has a magnet for cadence and power.   However you do need a magnet on the rearwheel for the speed sensor .

@Bob... The HR setting should work fine but I think you will like the speed sensor set up better specially when outside.  You will find the Joule wont find your HR when you walk away from your bike( for pee , fuel , etc stop) unless you hit both buttons and hold them for the search feature.  The speed sensor is automatic.
