Treadmill Recos

I am about to replace the motor on my ProForm 675E treadmill.... for the THIRD time in about 3 years.  (Really???)  Anyway, my plan is to sell it once it has the new motor and get one that can handle some use.  Any thoughts/recos?  I have heard/read good things about NordicTrack but have heard some bad things about the electronic parts (touch screen, etc) so I'm hesitant.  The extra bells & whistles are nice but I don't need them.  I'm thinking the $1,500 area should get me something reliable.  Looks like 3.0+hp is the way to go.  (More is better?)  Any input would be appreciated!

  • @ Kim,

I bought a PaceMaster Platinum Pro 6 years ago and have not had any problems. I tend to use it from December thru March for most of my running. Pre EN that would have been 35 to 45 miles a week. The past 2 seasons with EN, more like 25 to 35 per week. Been very happy. Paid just under $2K. My expectation was 10 years service and I am well on my way.

American made, 10 years on the 3hp motor.
  • Kim, best advice I can give is to go to the treadmilldoctor.com website, read the reviews there (things change from year to year as manufacturers change the way they do things), and select a unit based on that. One very important consideration is if you think you might ever run faster than a 6 min/mile for your repeats, in which case you need a 12mph instead of 10mph max speed.

When all else fails and a quick reco is needed, I usually tell people to buy a Sole F80. Hard to go wrong. That said, through some diligent research and bargain hunting, I bought a Horizon T1200 a few years ago for $600 less than average retail price ($1000 less than "MSRP"), and have been nothing but happy with it.
  • I bought a Pacemaster ProSelect almost 11 years ago and NO issues! I bought it when I had my first baby and we lived in Phoenix...so the last thing I was going to do was strap a babe in a baby jogger for a run in 110 degree heat! I trained for Boston on it one year, used it sparingly for a number of years, and have been on it a ton this winter for the OS. My husband uses it often as well, so I would say it was the best use of our $$ ever! I like it better than any other treadmills I have ever used. I do not know what Pacemasters selection is these days...but absolutely worth a look! Good luck!!
  • X2 on Treadmill Doctor. Great reviews and ability to compare. When I bought my used treadmill a couple of years ago, key considerations were looking for a wide track, long track, strong motor, and top end speed of 12 mph. To me, all other stuff was just useless electronics that I would never use. Get your own huge fan and tv/stereo to pass the time.
  •  I've had a Nordic Track with 3 horse motor for 5 years and run it ragged  (in a good way) nothing but positives about the Nordic Track...just be sure to get the heavier duty motor version.
