YMCA 3 mile Race 2-11-2012
Well here in Des Moines Iowa we had our YMCA 3 and 5 mile Red Flannel Run. Starting line temps @ 5 Deg F Yikes!!! with a 10-12 mph wind in our face which seem to be all race long. Got down to the race about 40 minutes before start did a 1 mile WU and went inside and stretched, About that time they were calling us outside to get started. My goal was 7:15 m/m. Had so so many clothes on which I am not used to since I have been doing dreadmill work. My current fastest time on my 5k is 7:30 m/m. We took off set my watch and right off the bat had to go up a gradual hill with moderate wind for a 1/2 mile then turn and go into the direct wind for 1/2 mile. Then we ran long the river up and back for approx 1.5 miles with the wind off the river blowwwwing. The entire time after mile 1 my stomach felt bad but tried my best to push on through it. Once i was within 1/2 mile from finish I picked it up to try and salvage the best I could.
My best 5k time the last two test 7:30 and 7:35 in decent temps outside. My PR for a 5k in perfect weather is 7:24
Today I think I was around 7:25-7:26 in nasty temps and wind. Good news is my achilles felt wonderful!!!!
Summary: I think my training has improved my threshold but I think due to the conditions I was held me back a bit. All in all it was a good start to my racing season...
I will follow with my offical time after they post it.
