Quarq power meters/ shimano

I am starting my search for a power meter, does anyone know if Quarq power meters are compatiable with shimano?

Comments

  • Shimano what? Quarq is not compatible with Shimano's cranks (like Dura-Ace or Ultegra) because those cranks don't have a removable spider. You can use Shimano chainrings, cassettes, rear/front derailleurs, shifters and so on.
  • Quarq is a powermeter built into a SRAM crank. The crank is compatible with all Shimano components: deraileurs, shifters, chain, cassette, etc.

I got your email and will answer it later today

  • it's official.  I am selling my Quarq with sram s900 cranks.  compact setup The bottom bracket is a bb30.

It is like parting witha  good friend.  but I need shorter cranks due to my short body! and they don't make cranks that are short enough

  •  Does anyone have an opinion or experience with the ibike aero gen III?  How about compared to Polar's CS600x with WIND power?

  • @ David - I used iBikes from 2005-2010, inlcuding the Gen 3 iAero. The simple answer is: don't buy one. Spend your $ on a hub-based or crank-based PM instead. The thing is just too finicky to be totaly reliable, especially in a race situation. My life got so much easier once I switched from iBike to PowerTap. IMO, the only PM solutions which have shown themselves to be reliable over time are SRM, Quarq, and PowerTap. Pedal based has yet to prove itself, chain based I am unfamiliar with, and resistence calcualtion (iBike) is just not worth the $ and trouble, and is too subject to variables like grade, wind, body position, etc.

  • @David, trust Al on this besides being a WSM, he's our in haus iBike expert.
  •  Thanks Al and Cary!

  • David, I used the Polar cs600 power unit for a couple years. It was ~ok. Iw takes. Lot of care and accuracy and finesse to set up. There were a couple races where it just didnt read, don't know why. I did question the accuracy of the power readings, but they did track pretty close to a power tap when I rode with my wife's rear wheel. Last year, I decided to go with a crank based system as I have a really nice set of race wheels. I bought a used SRM V off of eBay. It is a super reliable, bullet proof device. I'm comfortable with the readings I'm getting. It always works. It was the best of the best not very many years ago. So, like Al said, SRM, Quark, or Powertap. Can't go wrong withi those.
  • iBike is the Fisher Price of Powermeters. Pretty much everyone ends up getting a Powertap, Quarq, or SRM. Better to save up and get what works.

    Buy cheap, buy twice.
